Is “Easter” in Acts 12:4 a mistranslation of the word “pascha” or should it be translated as “passover”?
“pascha” is properly translated “Easter” in Acts 12:4 as the following explanation will show.
The Greek word which is translated “Easter” in Acts 12:4 is the word “pascha“. This word appears twenty-nine times in the New Testament. Twenty-eight of those times the word is rendered “Passover” in reference to the night when the Lord passed over Egypt and killed all the firstborn of Egypt (Exodus 12:12), thus setting Israel free from four hundred years of bondage.
The many opponents to the concept of having a perfect Bible have made much of this translation of “pascha“.
Coming to the word “Easter” in God’s Authorized Bible, they seize upon it imagining that they have found proof that the Bible is not perfect. Fortunately for lovers of the word of God, they are wrong. Easter, as we know it, comes from the ancient pagan festival of Astarte. Also known as Ishtar (pronounced “Easter“). This festival has always been held late in the month of April. It was, in its original form, a celebration of the earth “regenerating” itself after the winter season. The festival involved a celebration of reproduction. For this reason the common symbols of Easter festivities were the rabbit (the same symbol as “Playboy” magazine), and the egg. Both are known for their reproductive abilities. At the center of attention was Astarte, the female deity. She is known in the Bible as the “queen of heaven” (Jeremiah 7:18; 44:17-25). She is the mother of Tammuz (Ezekiel 8:14) who was also her husband!
These perverted rituals would take place at sunrise on Easter morning (Ezekiel 8:13-16). From the references in Jeremiah and Ezekiel, we can see that the true Easter has never had any association with Jesus Christ.
The problem is that even though the Jewish passover was held in mid April (the fourteenth) and the pagan festival Easter was held later the same month, how do we know that Herod was referring to Easter in Acts 12:4 and not the Jewish passover? If he was referring to the passover, the translation of “pascha” as “Easter” is incorrect. If he was indeed referring to the pagan holyday (holiday) Easter, then the King James Bible (1611) must truly be the very word and words of God for it is the only Bible in print today which has the correct reading.
To unravel the confusion concerning “Easter” in verse 4, we must consult our FINAL authority, THE BIBLE. The key which unlocks the puzzle is found not in verse 4, but in verse 3. (“Then were the days of unleavened bread… ” [*ALWAYS read the CONTEXT of a verse before making assumptions]) To secure the answer that we seek, we must find the relationship of the passover to the days of unleavened bread. We must keep in mind that Peter was arrested during the “days of unleavened bread” (Acts 12:3).
Our investigation will need to start at the first Passover. This was the night in which the LORD smote all the firstborn in Egypt. The Israelites were instructed to kill a lamb and strike its blood on the two side posts and the upper door post (Exodus 12:4-5). Let us now see what the Bible says concerning the first passover, and the days of unleavened bread.
Exodus 12:13-18: “And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.
14 And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.
15 Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; even the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your houses: for whosoever eateth leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel.
16 And in the first day there shall be an holy convocation to you; no manner of work shall be done in them, save that which every man must eat, that only may be done of you.
17 And ye shall observe the feast of unleavened bread; for in this selfsame day have I brought your armies out of the land of Egypt: therefore shall ye observe this day in your generations by an ordinance for ever.
18 In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at even ye shall eat unleavened bread, until the one and twentieth day of the month at even.”
Here in Exodus 12:13 we see how the passover got its name. The LORD said that He would “pass over” all of the houses which had the blood of the lamb marking the door.
After the passover (Exodus 12:13-14), we find that seven days shall be fulfilled in which the Jews were to eat unleavened bread. These are the days of unleavened bread!
In verse 18 we see that dates for the observance were April 14th through the 21st.
This religious observance is stated more clearly in Numbers 28:16-18: “And in the fourteenth day of the first month is the passover of the LORD.
17 And in the fifteenth day of this month is the feast: seven days shall unleavened bread be eaten.
18 In the first day shall be an holy convocation;ye shall do no manner of servile work therein:”
In verse 16 we see that the passover is only considered to be the 14th of the month. On the next morning, the 15th begins the “days of unleavened bread.”
Deuteronomy 16:1-8: “Observe the month of Abib (April), and keep the passover unto the LORD thy God: for in the month of Abib the LORD thy God brought thee forth out of Egypt by night.
2 Thou shalt therefore sacrifice the passover unto the LORD thy God, of the flock and the herd, in the place which the LORD shall choose to place his name there.
3 Thou shalt eat no leavened bread with it; seven days shalt thou eat unleavened bread therewith, even the bread of affliction: for thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt in haste: that thou mayest remember the day when thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt all the days of thy life.
4 And there shall be no leavened bread seen with thee in all thy coast seven days; neither shall there any thing of the flesh, which thou sacrificedst the first day at even, remain all night until the morning.
5 Thou mayest not sacrifice the passover within any of thy gates, which the LORD thy God giveth thee:
6 But at the place which the LORD thy God shall choose to place his name in, there thou shalt sacrifice the passover at even, at the going down of the sun, at the season that thou camest forth out of Egypt.
7 And thou shalt roast and eat it in the place which the LORD thy God shall choose: and thou shalt turn in the morning, and go unto thy tents.
8 Six days thou shalt eat unleavened bread: and on the seventh day shall be a solemn assembly to the LORD thy God: thou shalt do no work therein.”
Here in Deuteronomy we see again that the passover is sacrificed on the first night (Deuteronomy 16:1). It is worth noting that the passover was to be celebrated in the evening (vs.6) not at sunrise (Ezekiel 8:13-16).
In II Chronicles 8:13 we see that the feast of unleavened bread was one of the three Jewish feasts to be kept during the year.
II Chronicles 8:13: “Even after a certain rate every day, offering according to the commandment of Moses, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the solemn feasts, three times in the year, even in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles.”
Whenever the passover was kept, it always preceded the feast of unleavened bread. In II Chronicles 30 some Jews who were unable to keep the passover in the first month were allowed to keep it in the second. But the dates remained the same.
II Chronicles 30:15-21: “Then they killed the passover on the fourteenth day of the second month: and the priests and the Levites were ashamed, and sanctified themselves, and brought in the burnt offerings into the house of the LORD. And the children of lsrael that were present at Jerusalem kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with great gladness: and the Levites and the priests praised the LORD day by day, singing with loud instruments unto the LORD.”
Ezra 6:19-22: “And the children of the captivity kept the passover upon the fourteenth day of the first month. And kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with joy: for the LORD had made them joyful, and turned the heart of the king of Assyria unto them, to strengthen their hands in the work of the house of God, the God of Israel.”
We see then, from studying what the BIBLE has to say concerning the subject that the order of events went as follows:
(1) On the 14th of April the lamb was killed. This is the passover. No event following the 14th is ever referred to as the passover.
(2) On the morning of the 15th begins the days of unleavened bread, also known as the feast of unleavened bread.
It must also be noted that whenever the passover is mentioned in the New Testament, the reference is always to the meal, to be eaten on the night of April 14th not the entire week. The days of unleavened bread are NEVER referred to as the Passover. (It must be remembered that the angel of the Lord passed over Egypt on one night, not seven nights in a row.
Now let us look at Acts 12:3-4: “And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.) And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.”
Verse 3 shows that Peter was arrested during the days of unleavened bread (April 15-2 1). The Bible says: “…(Then were the days of unleavened bread.)” The passover (April 14th) had already come and gone. Herod could not possibly have been referring to the passover in his statement concerning Easter. The next Passover was a year away! But the pagan holiday of Easter was just a few days away. Remember! Herod was a pagan Roman who worshipped the “queen of heaven“. He was NOT a Jew. He had no reason to keep the Jewish passover. Some might argue that he wanted to wait until after the passover for fear of upsetting the Jews. There are two grievous faults in this line of thinking.
First, Peter was no longer considered a Jew. He had repudiated Judaism. The Jews would have no reason to be upset by Herod’s actions.
Second, he could not have been waiting until after the passover because he thought the Jews would not kill a man during a religious holiday. They had killed Jesus during passover (Matthew 26:17-19,47). They were also excited about Herod’s murder of James. Anyone knows that a mob possesses the courage to do violent acts during religious festivities, not after.
In further considering Herod’s position as a Roman, we must remember that the Herods were well known for celebrating (Matthew 14:6-11). In fact, in Matthew chapter 14 we see that a Herod was even willing to kill a man of God during one of his celebrations.
It is elementary to see that Herod, in Acts 12, had arrested Peter during the days of unleavened bread, after the passover. The days of unleavened bread would end on the 21st of April. Shortly after that would come Herod’s celebration of pagan Easter. Herod had not killed Peter during the days of unleavened bread simply because he wanted to wait until Easter. Since it is plain that both the Jews (Matthew 26:17- 47) and the Romans (Matthew 14:6-11) would kill during a religious celebration, Herod’s opinion seemed that he was not going to let the Jews “have all the fun“. He would wait until his own pagan festival and see to it that Peter died in the excitement.
Thus we see that it was God’s providence which had the Spirit-filled translators of our Bible (King James) to CORRECTLY translate “pascha” as “Easter“. It most certainly did not refer to the Jewish passover. In fact, to change it to “passover” would confuse the reader and make the truth of the situation unclear.

“Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible,
by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.” —1st Peter 1:23
The precious King James Bible is BOTH inspired and preserved. There are some teachers today who say that the King James Bible is not preserved. There are others who say that the King James Bible is not inspired. And some teachers deny both preservation and inspiration. Without a doubt this is a delicate and sensitive issue in churches today, because the Bible is the greatest number one threat to satan. Yet, if we’re wrong on the Bible as born-again Christians, then we’re wrong on everything else. There is a raging battle today over the King James Bible.
You don’t have to read very far in contemporary, fundamentalist, Baptist literature to come across scoffers who attack the “King James only” (*I am PROUDLY King James only) position and degrade those of us who would dare call the King James Bible “inspired.” Well, bless God, it’s inspired Word for Word!
Dr. Jerry Falwell announced that he had hired Dr. Harold Rawlings to “refute the ‘King James Only’ cultic movement that is damaging so many good churches today.”
Dr. Robert Sumner warns about the “veritable fountain of misinformation and deceptive double talk on the subject of ‘King James Onlyism.”
Dr. J. B. Williams refers to those who advocate the King James Only as “misinformers” and as “a cancerous sore.”
Dr. Robert Joyner calls King James Bible loyalists, “heretics.”
Dr. James R. White warns about King James Bible proponents “undercutting the very foundations of the faith itself.”
And now in 2009 an influential pastor of one of America’s largest Independent Fundamental Baptist Churches is calling us “careless Bible students” and “ignorant” for saying that the King James Bible is inspired. How tragic!
I just don’t get it. Why would any Christian leader shake his congregation’s faith in the Word of God? If the Bible that we hold in our hands is not inspired, then let’s just throw it into the garbage and go buy the latest New York Times Bestseller to read instead. Thank God for Dr. Jack Hyles who upheld the King James Bible as inerrant and perfect…
“I must have every Word if I speak His message. If I didn’t think I had a perfect Bible I’d close this one, walk out that door, I’d never walk in the pulpit again.” —Dr. Jack Hyles
The 54 King James Bible translators (47 did the actual work of translating) were a collection of some of the world’s best scholars. They approached this translation with the mindset that they were translating the very Words of God, not just some book. The King James Bible has been called “the monument of English prose” as well as “the only great work of art ever created by a committee.” Howbeit, the question is raised, is the King James Bible inspired? I say, yes, absolutely, and it is self evident.
We must begin with the Scriptures themselves, for Jesus commanded in John 5:39… SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES!
2nd Timothy 3:16 proclaims, “ALL SCRIPTURE is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” Some teachers lift out the words “is given”, claiming that only the original autographs given by God were inspired. I have a serious problem with that, because God promised to PRESERVE His Word in Psalm 12:6-7, “The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified SEVEN TIMES. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.”
For someone to say that God preserves His Word without inspiration is akin to saying that God preserves our salvation without the Holy Spirit. It just doesn’t set right. The very notion that a translation does not contain the inspired Words of God is disturbing indeed. And if a translation DOES contain the inspired Words of God, then it is divinely inspired.
Here is an excellent quote from Dr. Shelton Smith of the Sword Of The Lord…
“God has preserved His inspired Word for us. It is preserved in the Hebrew Masoretic text and in the Greek Textus Receptus. It is also preserved for us in the English in the King James Bible. What He at first inspired, the Lord God has now preserved. Therefore, when I hold the King James Bible in my hand, I hold the inspired text. It was inspired and now that inspired Word has been protected, preserved and provided for us!”
SOURCE: What Is That Book You Hold In Your Hand?, by Dr. Shelton Smith, editor, Sword of the Lord.
Yes, I agree! How could God’s preserved Word not be inspired? If God has kept His promise to PRESERVE His Word (and He has!), then those Words must also maintain their inspiration. To say that only the originals (also know as the “autographs”) were inspired is to say that we do not have God’s inspired Word for today, which means that we cannot claim 2nd Timothy 3:16. If the man of God is to be “perfect,” then he absolutely MUST have the “inspired” Words of God to profit him.
It is expected for unsaved heathens to claim that mortal men authored the Bible. Yet, how sad it is when Gospel preachers agree with them by saying that flawed men wrote flawed translations which are flawed. How can any believer who loves the Lord feel confident if they are taught that the Bible they love, cherish and obey is imperfect? They cannot. It is a woeful injustice to rob a church congregation of their faith in God’s Word by diminishing the inerrancy and inspiration of the King James Bible. God has preserved His Word for the English-speaking people in the King James Bible, and it does not contain errors. Volumes of books have been written addressing alleged discrepancies and so-called mistranslations in the King James Bible. Ultimately, critics of the King James Bible find themselves barking up an empty tree.
Dr. Jack Hyles (1926-2001) believed that the King James Bible is inspired. The following quote is taken from his book, The Need for an Every-Word Bible, page 54…
“I’m tired of colleges and universities advertising that they use the King James Bible. Tell the whole story! Tell everyone that you do not believe that it is inspired word for word.” —Dr. Jack Hyles
A friend of mine who used to teach martial arts taught his students, “Practice does not make you perfect, perfect practice makes you perfect.” When he told me that I immediately thought about the King James Bible, because an imperfect Bible can only produce imperfect children. Corruption can only bring forth corruption. Jesus said an evil tree can only bring forth evil fruit. The reason why the King James Bible has been so successful over the centuries in getting people saved is because it is God’s inspired, infallible, inerrant and preserved Word.
Why I Believe the King James Bible is the Word of God!
(by Dr. Peter Ruckman)
THE WORDS OF THE KING JAMES TRANSLATORS
The King James translators humbly stated that their work may contain “imperfections and blemishes.” Remember, this is THEIR opinion of THEIR best efforts to better the Word of God in English. We must not forget that GOD PROMISED TO PRESERVE HIS WORD and was overseeing the work . . .
“No cause therefore why the word translated should be denied to be the word, or forbidden to be current, notwithstanding that some imperfections and blemishes may be noted in the setting forth of it. For whatever was perfect under the Sun, where Apostles or Apostolic men, that is, men endued with an extraordinary measure of God’s spirit, and privileged with the privilege of infallibility, had not their hand?”
In Exodus 4:10 we find Moses lacking confidence in his own communication skills, and yet God used Moses to author the first five books of the Old Testament, “And Moses said unto the LORD, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.” Clearly, Moses did not feel qualified to relay God’s Word to the people. The humility of the King James translators does not in any way mean that God wasn’t in complete control of the work they did. They prayerfully and diligently labored to give us the King James Bible.
Dr. Samuel Gipp states in favor of the King James Bible being inspired . . .
QUESTION: Did the translators of the Authorized Version claim to be inspired by God?
ANSWER: No. But Biblically that does not mean that they could not have been inspired. [emphasis added]
Does this mean that, because they did not claim God’s hand in translating the Scripture that He could not be or was not in control of their commission? For the answer we must look to the Bible, our final authority in all matters of faith and practice.
When John the Baptist was accosted by the Levites in John chapter one and asked if he was Elijah (John 1:21) he answered that he was not Elijah. Yet in Matthew chapters 11:7-14 and 17:10-13 Jesus Christ plainly stated that John was Elijah.
Did John the Baptist lie? No. Did Jesus Christ lie? Of course not. The answer is very simply that John was Elijah but he didn’t know it! Thus we see from our Bible example that a man can have God working through him and not know it. Likewise, God could easily have divinely directed the King James translators without their active knowledge.
SOURCE: THE ANSWER BOOK, chapter 14, by Dr. Samuel C. Gipp, Th.D.
I say, most definitely, yes, God was in control of the King James Bible committee and the Words of the King James Bible are inspired. This is not “double inspiration.” That is, God did not give His Words afresh to the King James translators. It simply means that God’s Words are inspired and always will be inspired, no matter what language they are translated into.
In 1st Corinthians 7:6 the Apostle Paul said, “But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment.” Paul felt that he was merely giving his personal opinion in this portion of Scripture, rather than writing what God had commanded him to; yet we know from 2nd Timothy 3:16 that, “ALL SCRIPTURE is given by inspiration of God.” Paul’s writings in the Bible are all inspired by God, because Paul was only the pen which God used to give us His Words.
God is the Author of the entire Bible. God used imperfect men to write His perfect Word, by putting His Words into their mouth. God made unholy men holy for His purpose. So it matters not that Moses was not eloquent in speech, nor that Paul gave his personal opinion in 1st Corinthians chapter 7, nor that the King James translators acknowledged that they were only imperfect men—What’s important is that God’s Words will forever be incorruptible, settled in Heaven, preserved AND INSPIRED.
“One Book Stands Alone encourages believers to stand by the one and only inspired book of God, the King James Bible.” —Dr. Douglas Stauffer
Some scholars today claim that God has only preserved His Word in the original languages; but the Bible does not teach that. It is self-evident that God has chosen America as the citadel of Christianity over the past 100 years to the world, having sent out millions of foreign missionaries with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Heresy went East, but truth went West. I believe God has preserved His inspired Word in the English-speaking language in the King James Bible. I do not believe that the King James Bible is merely a superb translation or the best manuscript available in English.
I believe it is God’s inspired, inerrant, infallible, impeccable and preserved Word. 1st Peter 1:23 plainly states that sinners are “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.” This means we need an incorrupt Bible! It is sad that preachers don’t start doubting the Word of God until they go to seminary. Maybe we should call them preacher cemeteries.
The King James Bible was the finished product of SEVEN revisions. Interestingly, “The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified SEVEN TIMES. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.” Notice that God said His Word is “pure,” as pure as silver refined seven times. (the number seven in the Bible represents God’s perfection). We have God’s perfect Word in the English language in the King James Bible.
Amen! It is the manuscript God wanted us to have to fellowship with Him and do the work of soulwinning.
The King James translators said they weren’t trying to make a new translation of the Bible; but rather, a good one better…
“Truly (good Christian Reader) we never thought from the beginning, that we should need to make a new Translation, nor yet to make of a bad one a good one, (for then the imputation of Sixtus had been true in some sort, that our people had been fed with gall of Dragons instead of wine, with whey instead of milk:) but to make a good one better, or out of many good ones, one principal good one, not justly to be excepted against; that hath been our endeavor, that our mark.”
If one truly believes that a sovereign God is able to work in the hearts of men to do His will, and if one believes that God has kept His promise to preserve His Word, and if one considers that the mightiest soul-winning men of God over the past four centuries have preached from the King James Bible, it is self-evident that God has given to us the King James Bible. Is God incapable of preserving His Word without mistakes? Of course! If, as some claim, the Bible is only preserved in the original languages today, then we do not have an English Bible in America?
Which means we are hopelessly destitute.
If the King James Bible is less than perfect, then why even preach from it? Why preach from an imperfect Word? If the King James Bible is imperfect, then what are you doing using it? If the King James Bible is imperfect, then so is everything you teach from it. I mean, if the King James Bible has hundreds of problems with it as many preachers are claiming today, let’s throw our Bible into the garbage. A pastor who places a question mark on the King James Bible is no better than satan who weakened Eve’s faith when he asked her, “Yea, hath God said?” (Genesis 3:1b).
Matthew 4:4, “But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” If we are to live by “every Word”, then we need an every Word Bible. I believe the King James Bible to be that every Word Bible, preserved and inspired by God.
Some preacher says that the Bible is only for the scholarly and studious. No, the Bible is for anyone who wants to pick it up and use it, read it and hear it.
THE CONSPIRACY OF THE ALEXANDRIAN CULT (awesome KJB defense by Dr. Ruckman)
“You’d be shocked if you knew, how the versions of the Bible that are coming out, which are so unnecessary and not even Bible—You’d be shocked if you knew what they’re doing to cause Christian people to feel subconsciously unstable! You’d be shocked if you knew what it’s doing to the nervous system of our people—All these Bibles!” —Pastor Jack Hyles, MP3 sermon, Don’t Chase The Pendulum (1986) [*Link to Mp3 above].
IN PRESERVATION, WE HAVE THE INSPIRED ORIGINALS
The Bible doesn’t say that the man of God needs the “preserved” Words of God to profit him; but rather, the “Scripture given by inspiration of God.” People talk about the “originals,” but according to Psalm 12:6-7 we have the originals. Psalm 12:6-7, “The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.” God didn’t promise in Psalm 12:6-7 to renew or republish His Words. No, rather, God promised to PRESERVE His Words, “as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.”
What we hold in our hands today in the form of the King James Bible is the PRESERVED inspired originals, which means the King James Bible has to be inspired. God’s Word has been preserved. If the King James Bible is not inspired, then God did not preserve His Word, because His Word is inspired. Preservation MUST include inspiration if it is genuine preservation.
The word “preserve” in Psalm 12:7 means “to maintain.” Hence, God has maintained His inspired Word unto all generations, as He so promised, which means that those Words must remain inspired.
Psalm 119:89 proclaims, “For ever, O LORD, Thy word is settled in heaven.” Notice that the originals are in Heaven. Before God ever spoke the universe into existence, the final Word of Revelation was already recorded in Heaven. Some Biblical scholars claim that the original manuscripts are only existent in the Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic languages; but it is not a language that God promised to inspire, it is HIS WORDS. It is the “Words” of the Lord that are pure. God Words are inspired, no matter what language they are translated into. The text of our beloved King James Bible are the inspired Words of God.
Evangelist and hymnist Horace L. Hastings (1831-1899) penned the following excellent words about the life-changing Word of God:
Again, I conclude that this book has in it the very breath of God, from the effect it produces upon men. There are men who study philosophy, astronomy, geology, geography, and mathematics; but did you ever hear a man say, “I was an outcast, a wretched inebriate, a disgrace to my race, and a nuisance in the world, until I began to study mathematics, and learned the multiplication table, and then turned my attention to geology, got me a hammer, and knocked off the corners of the rocks and studied the formation of the earth, and since that time I have been happy as the day is long; I feel like singing all the time; my soul is full of triumph and peace; and health and blessing have come to my desolate home once more?” Did you ever hear a man ascribe his redemption and salvation from intemperance and sin and vice to the multiplication table, or the science of mathematics of geology? But I can bring you, not one man, or two, or ten, but men by the thousands who will tell you, “I was wretched; I was lost; I broke my poor old mother’s heart; I beggared my family; my wife was heart-stricken and dejected; my children fled from the sound of their father’s footsteps; I was ruined, reckless, helpless, homeless, hopeless, until I heard the words of that Book!”

PLEASE DON’T DROP MY FOOD ON THE FLOOR
For any preacher to speak bad about the King James Bible, while simultaneously speaking about how wonderful it is, is akin to dropping someone’s food on the floor and then serving it to them on a plate. The same way most people would feel eating a steak that has just been dropped onto a dirty floor is the same way many church members feel when their pastor teaches them from a Bible which he claims is imperfect. Either we have God’s preserved, inspired, inerrant, infallible Word in the English-speaking language, or we do not. The Bible is our spiritual milk, bread and meat. I don’t know about you, but most people prefer not to have their food tampered with before they eat it. So keep your stinking feet out of my drinking water and my food.
“Brother Castle, do you believe the King James translators were inspired?
No, they were led. The words were already inspired.”
—Pastor Danny Castle, a quote from the needful MP3 sermon, Lets Get Our hearts Right! [*Cannot find link]
No pastor should ever shake his congregation’s faith in the King James Bible, even in the slightest way. The average uneducated layman in the pew needs to hear his pastor uphold the King James Bible as God’s Word. To fail to do so is a grave injustice against the common man. The average believer will NEVER understand Greek or Hebrew and it is a woeful injustice to place that kind of a burden upon humble church people, i.e., telling them that they cannot understand the Bible without learning Greek and Hebrew. Childlike faith only requires a childlike understanding of the Bible.
Do not tell me that a child cannot understand the Bible to get saved. Do not tell me that those with learning disabilities must understand the Greek to be saved. Do not tell me that a humble sinner, who only has a third grade education, cannot receive and experience sweet fellowship with Jesus Christ without learning Hebrew. Bless God, if the King James Bible was good enough for mama, it’s good enough for us too! If the King James Bible was good enough for Dwight L. Moody and Billy Sunday, bless God, it’s good enough for us too!
“They’re taking the pure Word of God and changing it for a buck and changed it for a dollar. So-called Christian colleges, take your stinking feet out of the Word of God! Quit serving dirty water! So-called Christian seminaries with your intelligencia, which is nothing more than stupidity hiding behind the guise of scholarship, you keep your stinking feet out of my drinking water! Dr. Custer of Bob Jones University, who says that there is no perfect Bible in the English language, you keep you stinking feet out of my drinking water! Greek scholars, so-called, self-styled Greek scholars, who are only called ‘Greek scholars’ by other Greek scholars, you keep your stinking feet out of my drinking water! … I am so sick of these guys that go to an institution. I’ve got more respect for a State university professor who says there’s no Word of God, than I have for a man who’ll hide behind the sacred desk and change God’s blessed Book.” —Dr. Jack Hyles
Dr. Lee Roberson (1909-2007) believed that the King James Bible is inspired. In his sermon, HAVE FAITH IN GOD, he made the following statement concerning his text verse, Mark 11:22, “And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God” …
“Whether in sunshine or rain, it will help us to have these inspired words before us: HAVE FAITH IN GOD.”
referred to the King James Bible as “these inspired words.” Amen. There are some preachers today who deny the inspiration of our precious King James Bible. It is apostasy. Thank God for Dr. Roberson’s faith in the King James Bible as God’s inspired, inerrant, infallible, impeccable and preserved Words of God.
In defense of the inspired and preserved King James Bible, the following quotes are taken from the excellent sermon by Pastor Jack Hyles,
LOGIC MUST PROVE THE KING JAMES BIBLE…
I have Mama’s Bible—the same one she read—in my office. I’ve had it there for years. I don’t know how old it is, but I suspect it is 55 or 60 years old. It is the same Bible she used to hold up. I was thumbing through it the other day. On the inside, it says on the title page, “King James Bible.” That’s what it says. You know it worked. It’s amazing how well Mama did before she found out that it wasn’t the Word of God.
It is amazing how well this nation did when we didn’t know how ignorant we were. (Are you listening?) This is my fifth pastorate. I’ve seen miracles in my pastorates. I’ve preached over 41,000 times, and I’ve never yet preached a sermon that wasn’t preached from the King James Bible.
It bothers me when people say, “We believe that the Bible, in the original manuscripts, is the Word of God.” If that’s true, we have no Bible. Did you hear what I said? We have no Bible.
We need a Bible that we can understand and a Bible that is God’s Word. It looks like anybody would agree that if God gives us the command to preach the Word, He would give us the Word to preach. That’s logical. If God wants to say to a nation, “You are the custodian of world evangelization for a generation or two or three or four,” it looks like God would give that nation the Word of God.
What is it? I would say it ought to be the one that has worked. Which one has worked? The one I hold in my hand right now. I has worked! It will work!
The following is sang to the tune of The Old-Time Religion:
It was good for our fathers;
It was good for our fathers;
It was good for our fathers;
And it’s good enough for me;
It was good for my mama;
It was good for my mama;
It was good for my mama;
And it’s good enough for me.
#2: THE KING JAMES BIBLE HAS SUPERIOR TRANSLATORS
The second reason for defending the KJV is because it has superior translators. This correctly implies that the various versions and perversions of the Bible have inferior translators.
Let’s take a brief look at the superior translators of the KJV. Why do I say that the KJV translators are superior? I say they are superior because they ARE superior! I think that there is no question about the expertise and ability of the translators who gave us our KJV. The new version people often say that the KJV translators were rather ignorant and didn’t know as much about translating as the “translators/paraphrasers” of today. This is not only prideful, but completely false. Their linguistic qualifications are unequaled!
The accomplishments of Lancelot Andrews. Let’s mention Dr. Lancelot Andrews. He was certainly a superior KJV translator. He had mastered fifteen languages. Someone said that if Dr. Andrews had been present at the confusion of tongues at the tower of Babel, he could have served as interpreter general. I don’t know any of the modern “translator/paraphrasers” who have mastered fifteen languages, do you? Send me their names, if you have proof of this.
The acumen of William Bedwell. How about Dr. William Bedwell? He was famed in Arabic learning. I don’t know how many of these new men who are “translating/paraphrasing” for these modern versions and perversions who have studied as much of the Arabic language as he had. In fact, he published in quarto, an edition of the Epistles of St. John in Arabic with a Latin version. I don’t know how many men today could do that. Dr. Bedwell left many Arabic manuscripts in the University of Cambridge, with numerous notes and a font of types for printing them. In fact, he wrote an Arabic lexicon, or dictionary, in three volumes. He also began a Persian dictionary which is among Archbishop Laud’s manuscripts, still preserved in the Bodleian Library at Oxford today. I don’t think anyone among our modern “translators/paraphrasers” of today has done this or could do this! Do you know any of these men who have written an Arabic dictionary and begun a Persian dictionary, or done anything similar in the scholarly world that will even come close to the accomplishments of William Bedwell? If so, send me their names and the proof. In our day, many people watch too much television. They attend too many football games, baseball games. and basketball games. We are ignoramuses today compared to the scholars who gave us our KJV!
The acceptability of Miles Smith. Look at the acceptability of Dr. Miles Smith. He was an expert in Hebrew, in Chaldee, in Syriac, and in Arabic. They were almost as familiar to him as his native tongue. Dr. Smith went through both the Greek and Latin church Fathers, making annotations on them all.
The activities of Henry Savile. Sir Henry Saville was proficient in both Greek and mathematics. He became tutor in these two subjects to Queen Elizabeth. I don’t know how many queens or kings our modern “translators/paraphrasers” have tutored, do you? Saville translated the histories of Cornelius Tacitus and published the same with notes. He published, from the manuscripts, the writings of Bradwardin against Pelagius, the Writers of English History Subsequent to Bede, and Prelections on the Elements of Euclid. He was the first to edit the complete works of Chrysostom, the most famous of the Greek Fathers. He was a profound, and exact scholar.
The academics of John Bois. John Bois was expert in Hebrew as well as Greek. He studied at his father’s knee. In fact, at the age of five, he had read the whole Bible IN HEBREW!! At the age of six, John Bois was able to write Hebrew in a clear and elegant style. If you know anything about the Hebrew letters, it’s difficult to write in an elegant style, or in any style, for that matter. Much more could be said about John Bois.
The superior translators in general. Have you ever heard of Gulliver’s Travels? It tells of Gulliver’s adventures with the inhabitants of Lilliput. Do you remember what the Lilliputians did to poor Gulliver? They were tiny, tiny people, and Gulliver was like a giant to them. While he was asleep, they tied up Gulliver with tiny cords so he couldn’t move. I liken the KJV translators to the giant Gulliver and the “translators/paraphrasers” of today to tiny Lilliputians.
It states in Gen. 6:4: “There were GIANTS in the earth in those days…” It was true also from 1604 to 1611, when these profound scholars gave us our incomparable King James Bible! They had mastered English as well as the Hebrew/Aramaic and Greek. They also knew the cognate or brother-sister- cousin related languages that shed light on the Hebrew/Aramaic and Greek such as the Aramaic, the Arabic, the Persian, the Coptic, the Syriac, and the others. When the modern “translators/paraphrasers” come upon a word they don’t understand, they throw up their hands in dismay. The KJV translators did not meet with such difficulty because they knew the cognate languages so well that they could unlock such mysteries. Our modern “translators/paraphrasers” are linguistically illiterate when compared to the men who gave us our KJV. They truly were “GIANTS”!!
#3: THE KING JAMES BIBLE HAS SUPERIOR TECHNIQUE
The third reason for defending the KING JAMES BIBLE is because it has superior technique of translation. This correctly implies that the various versions and perversions of the Bible have inferior technique of translation.
The KJV translators used the superior technique of verbal equivalence and formal equivalence–NOT dynamic equivalence. The modern versions and perversions have used, to a greater or lesser degree, the inferior technique of dynamic equivalence and have disdained both verbal and formal equivalence.
1. “God Forbid“. Some people allege that the KJB translators used dynamic equivalence in their expression “God forbid“. Even if it were the case (and I do not accept that it is), it is found only fourteen times in the New Testament: Rom. 3:4,6,31; 6:2,15; 7:7,13; 9:14; 11:1,11; 1 Cor. 6:15; Gal. 2:17; 3:21; 6:14. It is a rendering of “mE genoito” which is “may it not be” or “let it not be“. This is perfect 1611 parlance for “God forbid“. It was quite literal in 1611. If you don’t believe it, consult the Oxford English Dictionary which gives you the meaning of “God forbid” in 1611. It is found only seven times in the O.T.: Gen. 44:7,17; Josh. 22:29; 24:16; 1 Sam.12:23; 1 Chron. 11:19; Job 27:5. It is a rendering of “chalal” which is “may it be something profane” or “may it be far from me“. Again, “God forbid” is a perfect 1611- parlance for the Hebrew words used.
2. “God Save the King“. Another favorite allegation of dynamic equivalency in the KJV is the expression “God save the king“. Even if it were the case (and I do not accept that it is), it is only found four times in the O.T.: 1 Sam. 10:24; 2 Sam. 16:16; 2 King. 11:12; 2 Chron. 23:11. It means “may the king live long” or “may the king be preserved or safe“. Well, if the king lives long, he is “saved” is he not? [Editor: The term “salvation” was used in a much broader sense in past centuries.] So why not let the 1611- parlance of “God save the king” alone? The fact is that such examples are very, very few in the KJV, whereas they abound in the modern versions and perversions because in those, the dynamic equivalent technique is the rule rather than the exception.
The King James Bible’s verbal and formal equivalence.
The KJV basically uses the technique of verbal equivalence and formal equivalence. Verbal equivalence means that the very words, wherever possible, are brought over from Hebrew into English and from Greek into English. The KJV also uses the technique of formal equivalence, that is, the translators brought over, wherever possible, the very forms of the Hebrew and Greek words into English. They didn’t transform the grammar. They didn’t take a noun and make a verb out of it. They brought a verb into a verb and a noun into a noun wherever possible. They were skilled craftsmen who had a proper concept of what “translation” really is. It comes from translatus which in turn comes from two Latin words, trans (“across“) and latus which is the past participle of fero (“to carry“). It means to “carry across” from one place to another, or from one language to another. It does NOT seek to CHANGE, or to ADD, or to SUBTRACT!
Let me illustrate “translation.” If I have my wife’s pocketbook and I want to translate it from one side of the church to the other, I would simply pick it up, take it across the aisle, and put it on the other side of the church. I wouldn’t leave any of it behind, even though there may be some things in it I wouldn’t want to take over. I wouldn’t add anything to it, and I wouldn’t drop any of it in the center aisle. Now that’s translation, translatus. That’s what the KJV translators did. They just simply took the Hebrew words and put them into English. They picked up the Greek words and put them into English. That’s translation. That’s the superior technique.
The modern versions’ use of dynamic equivalence.
I have a computer print-out research of three of these modern versions–the New King James, the New American Standard, and the New International. When compared to the Hebrew and Greek texts, I found that the New King James Version had over 2,000 examples of dynamic equivalency, that is, adding to, subtracting from, or changing the Words of God. In a similar study of the New American Standard Version, I found over 4,000 such examples. In a similar study of the New International Version I found over 6,653 such examples.
What is meant by dynamic equivalency?
“Dynamic” means “moving or changing“. “Equivalence” means “the same or unchanging“. You can’t have it both ways! It is either changing or unchanging. Those who use this false technique in the various “translations/paraphrases” think it’s a great technique. The bottom line for such a technique is that it gives a human being the right to ADD to God’s Words (which is sin), to SUBTRACT from God’s Words (which is sin), or to CHANGE God’s Words (which is sin). God pronounces the strongest possible CURSE on anyone who dares to do any of those three things to God’s Words!!
Those who use this false technique are really paraphrasing rather than translating. Paraphrase comes from two Greek words, para (“alongside or beside“) and phrasis (“a word or phrase“). It means to use a word or phrase that is alongside the real meaning. It is to state something in other words. We should seek, as the KJV translators sought, to put into English the exact and accurate meaning of the Hebrew and Greek Words of God rather than to give something that is “beside” or “alongside” the word or phrase.
#4: THE KING JAMES BIBLE HAS SUPERIOR THEOLOGY.
The fourth reason for defending the KING JAMES BIBLE is because it has superior theology. This correctly implies that the various versions and perversions of the Bible have inferior theology.
Some denials that theology is affected by Greek or English versions.
It is said by those who use the new versions and perversions of the Bible that there is no difference in any of them when it comes to theology. It is also said that there is no difference in any of the Greek texts in the matter of theology. This is even said by those who are looked up to as Bible believing leaders. There are two phases of their theological denial:
(1) These men believe that the Greek textual variants between the two basic Greek texts do not affect theology or doctrine. They believe that the false Westcott and Hort Greek text (when compared to the Greek text of the KJV) contains nothing that is theologically deficient or doctrinally incorrect. This is false.
(2) These men also believe that the modern English versions do not contain changes from the KJV that affect theology or doctrine. They believe that you can take any modern English version you wish and when you compare it to the KJV, that version does not have anything in it that is theologically deficient or doctrinally incorrect. This is also false.
Dr. John R. Rice stated: “The differences in the translations are so minor, so insignificant, that we can be sure not a single doctrine, not a single statement of fact, not a single command or exhoratation, has been missed in our translations“. (meaning the English Revised Version of 1881 or the American Standard Version of 1901)
This statement is clearly false. It is not true to the evidence. Dr. Sumner wrote: “The rare parts about which there is still uncertainty do not effect [sic] in any way any doctrine“. This is false! Doctrine IS affected. Dr. Robert L. Thomas, John MacArthur‘s professor in his California Seminary, wrote: “No major doctrine of scripture is affected by a variant reading“. False, again. Dr. H.S. Miller wrote: “No doctrine is affected“. False again. Dr. Stanley Gundry stated: “Only a few outstanding problems remain, and these do not affect doctrine or divine command to us“. False again. Dr. Ernest Pickering wrote: “Important differences of textual readings are relatively few and almost none would affect any major Christian doctrine“. False again!
Some examples of theology that is affected by Greek and English versions. I have given 158 examples of the theological superiority of the KJV in my book. I selected these from Dr. Jack Moorman’s compilation of a total of 356 doctrinal passages that have been changed in the Egyptian heretical Greek texts of “B” (Vatican), “Aleph” (Sinai), and others. I’ll give you some examples of doctrines that are affected by these false Greek texts and new versions.
1. John 3:15. “That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.”
Do you know what the “B” (Vatican) and “Aleph” (Sinai) manuscripts do to the three words, “should not perish“? They REMOVE them. So, in the two false Greek texts, there’s no hell in Jn. 3:15. What versions follow these corrupted Greek texts? The NIV follows them, the NASV follows them, and the NKJV in the footnotes, follows them. So do the other modern versions and perversions. For them, there is no hell in Jn. 3:15. Is this not a major doctrine?
2. Mark 9:44 and 9:46. Another example is Mark 9:44 and 46. Both verses are gone: “Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched“.
Because “B” (Vatican) and “Aleph” (Sinai) remove both verses, so does the NKJV in the footnotes; so does the NASV (by putting them in brackets); and so does the NIV. So do the other modern versions and perversions. In so doing, they take away the fires of hell. Is this not a major doctrine? [Editor: While it is true that verse 48 is retained in this passage in the modern versions, the power and authority is weakened by two- thirds. The God-honored Received Text says Jesus repeated this statement three times to emphasize the horrors of going to hell. The critical text removes two of these statements, thus weakening the force of the doctrine.]
When you take the “literal fire” out of hell, as many new- evangelicals (and even some fundamentalists) have done, and as all of the apostates have done, and as Mary Baker Eddy and all false cults have done, you are in serious trouble and in grievous doctrinal error! For centuries, many have removed the fire out of hell even though the KJV keeps it in. Now these false Egyptian Greek texts and the false English perversions will assist them in their heresy of a “fireless hell“!
3. John 6:47. Let me see if you can accurately lead a soul to Christ using exclusively Jn. 6:47 as rendered in the new versions. Note John 6:47 in the KJV, where the Lord Jesus declared: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.”
That verse is as clear as a bell, on how to receive “everlasting life.” But, the Westcott and Hort Greek text, following the “B” (Vatican) and “Aleph” (Sinai) manuscripts, takes out those two vital and precious words, “on me.” Because of their reliance on these false Egyptian Greek texts, the NIV also removes “on me.” So does the NASV. So does the NKJV in the footnotes. So do the other modern versions and perversions. If you’re trying to lead a soul to Christ with those new versions and perversions, using Jn. 6:47 exclusively, you’ll never lead them to Christ, because “on me” (Christ) is gone from that verse in their perversions! All they say is something like this: “Whoever believes has everlasting life.” Believes what? Their verse doesn’t say. Their verse merely says “believes.” According to these perversions of John 6:47, if I were to believe in atheism, Christ promises me everlasting life. The same if I believe in humanism, or in the Easter Bunny, or the Tooth Fairy, or in Santa Claus, or in Rudloph the Red-Nose Reindeer, or in Bugs Bunny, or in Buddhism, Taoism, Judaism, Modernism, or in anything else! That’s major false doctrine in my judgement, and it stems directly from false Greek texts and false English perversions!
4. Romans 1:16. Here’s what it says in the accurate KJV: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
The heretical Greek texts of “B” (Vatican) and “Aleph” (Sinai) remove the two words, “of Christ” in this verse. Because of this, the NIV also removes these words. So does the NASV. So does the NKJV in the footnotes. So do the other modern versions and perversions. This certainly is doctrine. “Gospel” means “good news” or a “good announcement.” What “gospel” could be inserted there instead of the “gospel of Christ“? Was it the good news about a pay raise? Was it the good news about a new car, a new hat, or a new house? No! It’s the gospel or good news about Christ. That’s doctrine! That’s theology!
5. John 7:8. Was the Lord Jesus Christ a liar? If you believe the false Greek text, “Aleph” (Sinai), and some of the versions, He was. Note Jn. 7:8: “Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come.”
According to the Greek text “Aleph” (Sinai), the word “yet” must be removed. The NASV omits it also. So does the NKJV in the footnotes. So do some other modern versions and perversions. Why do I say this removal of “yet” makes the Lord Jesus Christ out to be a liar? Because He went up to the feast in question. If He told his brethren that He was NOT going up to the feast, and then later went up to that feast, He would have told a lie, would He not? This certainly is a major theological doctrine. As in all of the other 356 doctrinal passages, the KJV has superior theology here. The perversions are inferior in their theology and doctrine! Stay away from them!
Concluding remarks: I believe that in the King James Bible we have the Word of God kept intact in English. I believe we should defend the KJV for four reasons: (1) It has superior original language texts (Hebrew and Greek); (2) It has superior translators; (3) It has superior technique; and (4) It has superior theology.
We ought not to be ashamed of the Book of books that has stood the test of time and will continue standing. Let’s stand for it and with it. I hope the reader will secure for himself a copy of our book, Defending the King James Bible–A Four-fold Superiority–Texts, Translators, Technique, and Theology. In it we have elaborated on each of the above considerations. The KJV, which is being hammered and beaten on every hand today (by so-called “friend” and foe alike), can be very much likened to the “ANVIL” in that famous poem with which I close:
THE ANVIL OF GOD’S WORD
Last eve I passed beside a blacksmith’s door
And heard the anvil sing the vesper chime;
Then, looking in, I saw upon the floor
Old hammers, worn with blasting years of time.
“How many anvils have you had,” said I,
“To wear and batter all these hammers so?”
“Just one,” said he; and then, with twinkling eye,
“The anvil wears the hammers out, you know.”
And so I thought, the anvil of God’s Word
For ages, skeptic blows have beat upon.
Yet tho’ the noise of falling blows was heard
The anvil is unharmed–the hammers gone.
By Dr. D.A. Waite
Dr. Donald Waite is a scholar who has written in the defense of the Received Text for many years. He is President of the Dean Burgon Society and Director of Bible for Today ministries. He has earned a B.A. in classical Greek and Latin; a Th.M. with high honors in New Testament Greek Literature and Exegesis; an M.A. and Ph.D. in Speech; a Th.D. with honors in Bible Exposition; and he holds both New Jersey and Pennsylvania teacher certificates in Greek and Language Arts. He taught Greek, Hebrew, Bible, Speech, and English for more than 35 years in nine schools. He has produced more than 700 studies on the Bible and other subjects. The following study is a summary of Waite’s book Defending the King James Bible, which is available from Bible for Today, 900 Park Avenue, Collingswood, New Jersey 08108. Waite presents a four-fold superiority of the King James Bible: (1) SUPERIOR TEXTS (HEBREW AND GREEK); (2) SUPERIOR TRANSLATORS; (3) SUPERIOR TECHNIQUE; and (4) SUPERIOR THEOLOGY.
We begin with a couple of introductory thoughts about Bible translations:
Readability and the King James Bible. Many people say, “The KING JAMES BIBLE is too hard for people to read, they can’t understand it.” Well, if you consult the readability index called “Right Writer” (a computer program) that is absolutely neutral on this subject, you will find readabilities for the portions of the KING JAMES BIBLE examined as follows:
From this chart you can see that the KING JAMES BIBLE is NOT too difficult to understand–provided that you can read at a 6th to 10th grade level. Our son, D. A. Waite, Jr., has written a study he calls Six Bible Versions Compared on Readability–A Comparison of the KJB, NKJV, ASV, RSV, NRSV, and NIV. He took the first chapter of every book in the Bible, from Genesis through Revelation and compared the six versions of the Bible mentioned above. In this sampling, the KJV, over all, has a “Flesch Grade Level” of from 6.1 to 8.6. The NIV, on the other hand, has a “Flesch Grade Level” of from 6.1 to 11.0!! The NIV is not only less accurate by far, but also less readable than the King James! From this evidence, we see that it’s not too hard to understand the KING JAMES BIBLE.
I know hundreds of people whose intelligence and educational levels have not reached as high as some of these … people who say they can’t understand this King James Bible, yet these people do understand it. How do you figure that out? Remember 1 Cor. 2:14 which states, “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” This verse is still true, regardless of which translation is used.
Some people say they like a particular version because they say it’s more readable. Now, readability is one thing, but does the readability conform to what’s in the original Greek and Hebrew language? You can have a lot of readability, but if it doesn’t match up with what God has said, it’s of no profit. In the King James Bible, the words match what God has said. You may say it’s difficult to read, but study it out. It’s hard in the Hebrew and Greek and, perhaps, even in the English in the King James Bible. But to change it around just to make it simple, or interpreting it, instead of translating it, is wrong. You’ve got lots of interpretation, but we don’t want that in a translation. We want exactly what God said in the Hebrew and Greek brought over into English.
Do we need more “translations” of the Bible? It can be asked: “Do we really need more `translations’ of the Bible? Are these new versions really necessary?”
1. Complete English Bibles.
In the back of our book, Defending the King James Bible, there’s a chart that lists the number of “complete English Bibles” by years. From the 1300’s through the 1900’s, there were a total of 135 “complete English Bibles.” This is taken from a research that’s been done on English Bibles of all kinds. We notice that, on the average, there has been one complete English Bible every 4.4. years. Do you think we need more Bibles? In the last 604 years (from 1388 through 1991) complete English Bibles have increased in frequency. In the 1300’s, there were only three; in the 1400’s, there were none; in the 1800’s, there were forty-five; in the 1900’s, there were fifty-three (averaging one every 9.9 years).
2. Complete English New Testaments.
In the same book, there is a chart that lists the number of “complete English New Testaments” by years. From the 1300’s through the 1900’s, there were a total of 293 “complete English New Testaments.” This is, on the average, one complete English New Testament every 2.1 years. Do you think we need more New Testaments? Even if they were all presently available, imagine someone reading all of them. In the last 612 years (from 1380 through 1991) complete English New Testaments have also increased in frequency. In the 1300’s there was only one complete English New Testament; in the 1400’s, there was none; in the 1800’s, there were ninety; and in the 1900’s, there were 144 (averaging one every .69 years). That’s quite a jump–from ninety to 144!
3. Complete English Bibles and New Testaments combined.
If you put the charts together we can see that during the 612 years, from the 1300’s to the 1900’s, there were a total of 135 complete English Bibles, and 293 complete English New Testaments. This totals 428. It means that, on the average, there was either one complete English Bible or complete English New Testament published every 1.4 years. Do we need more complete English Bibles or complete English New Testaments? That’s the question. I believe that the major factor in the production of Bibles and New Testaments is money. When the publishers discover that a certain version no longer brings financial profit to their treasuries, that version runs out of print in a hurry! Very few churches are doing what the Berean Baptist Church in Greenwood, Indiana, is doing–printing Bibles and giving them out at low cost. In fact, they give many of them away without charge. To my knowledge, only those who have the real truth found in the King James Bible are doing this. You will find few, if any, publishers of these false perversions printing them at low cost or without charge!
Now we move to the fourfold superiority of the King James Bible:
#1: THE KING JAMES BIBLE HAS SUPERIOR ORIGINAL LANGUAGE TEXTS.
The first reason for defending the KJV is because it has superior texts, both Hebrew and Greek. This correctly implies that the various versions and perversions of the Bible have inferior texts, both Hebrew and Greek.
THE KJV HAS A SUPERIOR O.T. HEBREW TEXT. There are two basic texts in existence in Hebrew, the false one, edited by Ben Asher, and the true one, edited by Ben Chayyim. The Ben Asher is exhibited in Rudolf Kittel’s BIBLIA HEBRAICA (BHK) (1937) with all of his suggested footnote changes, as well as in the Stuttgart edition of BIBLIA HEBRAICA (BHS) (1967-77) with all of their suggested footnote changes. The true text of Ben Chayyim on which our KJV is based is also available. It is called the Daniel Bomberg edition or the Second Great Rabbinic Bible (1524-25). We carry this Hebrew Bible in the Bible for Today ministry. It is the Letteris text, printed in 1866. It has the Masoretic Hebrew text in the center and the King James Bible in the margins. This Ben Chayyim Masoretic Hebrew text was the fact, Rudolf Kittel, in his first two editions of 1906 and 1912, used that texts and substituted the spurious and inferior text which uses the Leningrad Manuscript (B19a or “L”). He used this because he claimed it was the oldest single Hebrew manuscript, dating from about 1008 A.D.
Both of these false Biblia Hebraica (BHK & BHS) Hebrew texts offer in their footnotes about fifteen to twenty suggested changes per page. This adds up to about 20,000 to 30,000 changes in the entire Hebrew Old Testament text. One or the other of these false Hebrew texts, either BHK or BHS, are used as the basis for the O.T. in all modern versions, as can be shown by reading their introductory pages. How many of these changes in the Hebrew text are you ready to accept? Do you want to accept 30,000? How about 20,000? 10,000? How about 5,000? How about 1,000? How many of you would like to accept 500 changes?
If you do not start with an absolute, where there is no doubt, you’re going to continue to move and to accept more and more changes. Where can you stop, once you have begun to slide? Doubts will arise in your mind. We don’t want to move from the Hebrew O.T. on which our KJV is based. We must have an absolute.
My personal belief is that the Traditional Masoretic Hebrew text that underlies the KJV is not only the “closest to the original autographs,” but that it is IDENTICAL to those original autographs. I can’t prove that to anybody, but I accept it as a matter of personal faith. I believe we have the very Words that God has preserved through the years. I believe every Word in the Hebrew text is God’s Word, preserved because He told us He would preserve it for the next 20,000 to 30,000 years–to a “thousand generations.”
The New Versions attempt to “CORRECT” The Hebrew Text in at Least 19 different ways. The NIV uses all nineteen of these, by the way. In effect, the new version “translators/paraphrasers” might say, “Oh, I don’t want to take this Hebrew word here. I want to take the Septuagint (LXX) reading instead.” But the Septuagint (LXX) version for the most part is worse than a Living Version. It is the Old Testament written in Greek. It is rotten. Its text is corrupt. Even the ISBE article, (the International Standard Bible Encyclopedia) on the Septuagint (LXX) states that it has a very tattered and inferior Greek text. Remember, the ISBE is no friend of the King James Bible’s text. The use of the Septuagint (LXX) by these new versions instead of using the Hebrew text is a serious error.
Another one of the nineteen methods is when they have no textual proof at all. It is pure conjecture. They might say, “I don’t have any proof, but I think it sounds better this way.” When this is done, they often print in the footnote an “L” which stands for “legendum,” meaning in Latin, “which read” I remember Dr. Merrill F. Unger, my Hebrew teacher at Dallas Theological Seminary. He has written many books, including Unger’s Bible Dictionary. He was an apt and humble man, though he reminded me of an “absent-minded professor” at times. He taught us Isaiah in our second year Hebrew class. On one occasion, he read a verse in a way that differed from the Hebrew text. I raised my hand and said, “Why did you read it that way? It doesn’t read that way in the Hebrew text?” Dr. Unger replied, “Well, I just thought it sounded better that way, so I changed it.” Dr. Unger went to the Johns Hopkins University for his Ph.D. work. He was taught by Dr. Albright who was far from sound in his theology. Perhaps Dr. Unger learned this doubt of the Hebrew text from his professor. What was Dr. Unger doing? He was “CORRECTING” the Hebrew text by conjecture.
Some “CORRECT” the Hebrew with the Syriac Version. Some “CORRECT” the Hebrew with just “a few Hebrew manuscripts” rather than the entire Masoretic Traditional Hebrew text. Some “CORRECT” the Hebrew with the Latin Vulgate. Some “CORRECT” the Hebrew with the Dead Sea Scrolls. With the Dead Sea Scrolls, there are a few problems.
Problem #1: How do you know which Hebrew manuscripts this heretical cult (called the Essenes) took with them when they left the temple of Jerusalem and went to the area of the Qumran caves?
Problem #2: How do you know the methods they used and the accuracy with which they copied and recopied those manuscripts? It just so happens that the Dead Sea Scrolls, probably 99% of the time, did concur with the Hebrew text that underlies the King James Bible. But, in the places where they don’t, we should stick to the Masoretic Traditional Hebrew text.
Some, like the NIV, use “quotations from Jerome” to “CORRECT” the Hebrew text. Some use Josephus, an unsaved Jew, to “CORRECT” the Hebrew text. Some use a “variant Hebrew Reading in the margin” to “CORRECT” the Hebrew text. Some use “words in the consonantal text divided differently” to “CORRECT” the Hebrew text. Some use quotations from Jerome, Aquila, the Samaritan Pentateuch, or Symmachus to “CORRECT” the Hebrew text. Some use the Hebrew Targums, Theodotion, or the “Juxta Hebraica of Jerome for the Psalms” to “CORRECT” the Hebrew text. Why are they taking Jerome as a substitute for the Hebrew Word of God? Was he there? Still others use a “different set of Hebrew Vowels” to “CORRECT” the Hebrew text. Some use “an ancient Hebrew scribal tradition” to “CORRECT” the Hebrew. Some use the BIBLIA HEBRAICA of Kittel or Stuttgartensia to “CORRECT” the Hebrew. These are 19 of the different methods that other English versions have used to “CORRECT” the Masoretic Traditional Hebrew Old Testament text, thus changing the very Words of God!
God authorized the Jews to be the exclusive guardians of His Words. The Jews were to be the guardians of the O.T. Hebrew text. God did not give that privilege and responsibility to any other race or people. “What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision? Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God” (Rom. 3:1-2).
It was the Hebrew O.T. text that God preserved, not some text in Greek, Latin, or Syriac, or any of these other documents. It must be Hebrew. There were eight or more important, strict rules that were followed by the Hebrew scribes who copied and recopied the Masoretic Hebrew O.T. text. These rules were to insure that each letter, word, and sentence of the Hebrew text was preserved exactly. The Jews were meticulous and reverent in the copying and recopying of our Hebrew manuscripts. That’s why I believe that we should not change any of the Hebrew Words of God that underlie the KJV.
The Ben Chayyim Hebrew Old Testament Text is available today. I hope that the American Bible Society and the British and Foreign Bible Society keep printing and circulating this Letteris Hebrew text. That’s what they call it, the Letteris text of 1866. This came out before Kittel decided to scrap it for his false Ben Asher text. These same Bible Societies print the false Hebrew texts, too. If they stop printing the true Ben Chayyim Hebrew Old Testament text, by God’s grace, we will do every thing in our power to see that it’s reprinted page by page and get it back into circulation. We’ll preserve the very O.T. Hebrew Words of God ourselves, if that becomes necessary. Sometimes this Hebrew Bible has gone out of stock at the American Bible Society, but it has always come back in stock by a shipment from England.
THE KING JAMES BIBLE HAS A SUPERIOR NEW TESTAMENT GREEK TEXT. There is a simple table in our book which speaks volumes concerning the New Testament Greek text debate. Here it is:
The Greek Text that underlies the KJV.
If you examine this table carefully, you will learn much about the debate that is raging concerning the Greek N.T. On the left of the table are some facts about the Textus Receptus that underlies the KJV. The Trinitarian Bible Society has published this text and made it available to anyone. The TBS took this text from that of Dr. Frederick Scrivener who was commissioned in about 1885, by the Cambridge University Press, to come up with the exact Greek text that underlies the King James Bible. Scrivener set down all of the Greek words used by the KJV, but he did something else as well. He put in bold face type all of the alterations made by editors Westcott and Hort in their 1881 English Revised Version.
He inserted the exact alterations in the footnotes. These consisted of either additions of Greek words, subtractions of Greek words, or changes of Greek words in some other way. This Greek text edition has been reprinted by the Bible for Today. It is a very useful tool. Scrivener’s Greek text is also available on the LOGOS Computer Program which enables the student to study more carefully. Dr. Jack Moorman counted 140,521 Greek words in the Textus Receptus. Scrivener’s Greek edition has 647 pages which would average 217 Greek words per page. That’s what the Textus Receptus has.
2. The Greek Text of Westcott and Hort that underlies the Modern Versions. Though there were some scattered opposition to the Received Text in years before, the concerted effort against the Received Text came in 1881, and after. In 1881, two theological heretics (posing as conservatives) from the Anglican Church, B.F. Westcott and F.J.A. Hort, published their Greek text that rejected the TR in 5,604 places by my actual count. This included 9,970 Greek words that were either added, subtracted, or changed from the TR. This involves, on the average, 15.4 words per page of the Greek N.T., or a total of 45.9 pages in all. It is 7% of the total of 140,521 words in the TR Greek N.T. It was a radically new Greek text. Westcott and Hort concocted a new Greek text and changed the TR that had been used in the Church from the beginning of the writing of the N.T.
You might rightfully ask, “How did you come up with this number of changes?” That’s a valid question. I took a copy of the original Scrivener’s Greek N.T. to a summer Bible Conference where I was preaching. During the afternoon, when there were no meetings, I studied that volume carefully, making notations on it as I read. When I indicate that there are 5,604 places in the Greek N.T. where Westcott and Hort actually altered the Greek Textus Receptus used by the KING JAMES BIBLE translators, it is because I actually counted that many places. I have the data in my copy of Scrivener’s Greek New Testament. These 5,604 places involve a total of 9,970 Greek words. How do I know that? Again, I counted them. I saw from the footnotes exactly how many Greek words each of the 5,604 places involved. As you might know, some of the plazces involve twelve entire verses (Mk. 16:9-20 and John 7:53– 8:11). In each of the 5,604 places, compared to the Textus Receptus that underlies the KJV, Westcott and Hort either added Greek words, subtracted Greek words, or changed the Greek words in some other way. You can see that the Westcott and Hort alterations amount to just thirty words short of 10,000 Greek words.
This means that there are almost 10,000 Greek words that are different in the Westcott and Hort Greek New Testament (and probably about the same or more in the Nestle/Aland 26th edition Greek text) as compared to the Greek text that underlies our KJV.
This FALSE Greek text, with its approximate 10,000 alterations, was the basis for virtually all of the modern English versions and perversions, including the ERV, ASV, NIV, NASV, NKJV, RSV, NRSV, TEV, JB, NEV, LV and the rest.
Hort’s own three estimates on the extent of the Greek textual problems between his text and the Textus Receptus. In 1882, Hort wrote an Introduction to the so-called Westcott and Hort Greek Text of 1881. In his Introduction to the New Testament in the Original Greek–The Text Revised by Brooke Foss Westcott, D.D., and Fenton John Anthony Hort, D.D., Hort made an estimate of the differences between various Greek texts. His estimate had three parts. Let me quote each of the parts:
(1) Hort’s estimate of the proportion of the Greek New Testament that was virtually accepted by everyone. He wrote: “With regard to the great bulk of the words of the New Testament, as of most other ancient writings, there is NO VARIATION or other ground of doubt, and therefore no room for textual criticism; . . . The proportion of words virtually accepted on all hands as raised above doubt is VERY GREAT, not less, on a rough computation, than SEVEN EIGHTHS OF THE WHOLE. The REMAINING EIGHTH therefore, formed in great part by changes of order and other comparative trivialities, constitutes the whole area of criticism” (Hort, p. 2).
Since the “whole” in numbers of Greek words and pages in the Greek N.T. as seen in our table, is 140,521 Greek words (100%=647 pages), Hort’s 7/8ths of the Greek New Testament virtually agreed to by all would be 122,956 Greek words (87.5%=566 pages). Hort’s 1/8th of the Greek N.T. that he claimed was in dispute would be 17,565 Greek words (12.5%=81 pages). In point of fact, as seen in the above table, the area of dispute between the Westcott and Hort Greek text as opposed to the Textus Receptus that underlies the KJV is only 9,970 Greek words (7%=45.9 pages). So Hort’s estimate in this area is incorrect.
(2) Hort’s estimate of the proportion of the Greek New Testament that would still be in doubt if his principles were followed. He wrote: “If the principles followed in the present edition are sound, this area may be very greatly reduced. Recognising to the full the duty of abstinence from peremptory decision in cases where the evidence leaves the judgement in suspense between two or more readings, we find that, setting aside differences of orthography, the words in our opinion still subject to doubt only make up about ONE SIXTIETH of the whole New Testament” (Hort, loc. cit.).
Since the “whole” in numbers of Greek words and pages in the Greek New Testament, as seen in the table above, is 140,521 Greek words (100%=647 pages), Hort’s 1/60th of the Greek New Testament still subject to doubt if his principles were followed, would be 2,342 Greek words. This represents 1.76% of the Greek words, or 11.4 pages in a Greek New Testament if put all in one place. But we don’t follow Hort’s “principles” at all. Because of this, we who hold to the Greek text that underlies the KJV are still disputing 9,970 Greek words (rather than only 2,342 Greek words). This represents 7% of the Greek words (rather than only 1.76%), or 45.9 pages in a Greek New Testament if the words were put in one place (rather than only 11.4 pages). So Hort’s estimate in this area is incorrect again. We still maintain that the of Greek words in dispute are vastly more in number than Hort has stated.
(3) Hort’s estimate of the proportion of the Greek New Testament that contains “SUBSTANTIAL VARIATION.” He wrote: “In this second estimate the proportion of comparatively trivial variations is beyond measure larger than in the former; so that the amount of what can in any sense be called SUBSTANTIAL VARIATION is but a small fraction of the whole residuary variation, and can hardly form more than A THOUSANDTH PART of the entire text” (Hort, loc. cit.).
Since the “whole” in numbers of Greek words and pages in the Greek New Testament, as seen in the table above, is 140,521 Greek words (100%=647 pages), Hort’s 1/1000th of the Greek New Testament that he thought could be called “SUBSTANTIAL VARIATION” would be 140.5 Greek words (.1%=.647 pages). This would be a little over one half a page in the Greek N.T. This is extremely wide of the mark of truth! Since we don’t follow Hort’s “principles” at all, we who hold to the Greek text that underlies the KJV are still disputing, either in “SUBSTANTIAL VARIATION” or otherwise, a total of 9,970 Greek words (7%=45.9 pages). It is Hort’s last estimate that has been seized by his modern day puppets and grossly distorted in order to fool people into thinking that the problem is very tiny, when in reality, it is much, much larger!
The misquotation of Hort by his followers on the extent of the Greek textual problems between his text and the Textus Receptus. Modern disciples of this false Westcott and Hort Greek text have enlarged upon Hort’s estimates. They say, in effect: “If all of the variant readings between the Westcott and Hort-type text and the Textus Receptus-type text were assembled together in one place, they would amount to a little over one half a page in the Greek New Testament.”
Hort’s pupils are either knowingly or unknowingly misquoting their teacher. They want to make the DIFFERENCES in the Greek texts very, very slight so as to minimize the arguments against the false Westcott and Hort-types Greek text. From the above quotations from Hort’s Introduction, his differences in Greek texts would be either 81 pages (1/8th), or 11.4 pages (1/60th), or .647 pages (1/1000th). Rather than merely “a little over one half a page,” Hort’s 1/8th of total differences would amount to 81 pages. In reality, we are faced with faced with 45.9 pages of difference!
A current illustration of this practice of distorting the facts in this area is found in a tape-recorded message given by Dr. Kenneth Barker, the chairman of the translation committee responsible for the New International Version. Dr. Barker spoke in the Sunday evening service, September 12, 1993, at the Southside Baptist Church in Greenville, South Carolina. A friend recorded the message and gave me a copy. Dr. Barker stated:
“There are over 5,000 Greek manuscripts, and all of them are AGREED 98% of the time. So all of this debate that Carson refers to in The King James Version Debate, all of this debate, all of the hullabaloo is over less than 2% of the entire text of the New Testament. And in that less than 2%, you can select any reading that you wish among the manuscripts, (that’s not our approach, but you can) and it won’t change Christian doctrine one bit.”
Dr. Barker is wrong on TWO COUNTS! (1) His “less than 2%” difference between any of the Greek manuscripts would be 2,810 Greek words (12.9 pages). The truth of the matter is that there is a 7% difference between the Westcott and Hort Greek text and the Textus Receptus that underlies the KJV. This would be 9,970 Greek words (45.9 pages). This is a most serious error. It is a blatant falsehood that is being promulgated by the chairman of the NIV translation committee. It would give false confidence to the pastor and members of this church that had just recently given up the KJV in favor of Dr. Barker’s NIV. (2) The second serious error is Dr. Barker’s statement relative to the fact that variations in manuscripts “won’t change Christian doctrine one bit.” In our book, we specify 158 such passages. Dr. Jack Moorman lists 356 such passages. These two falsehoods, from someone who should know better, are the major ones used to lull Bible believing Christians into deep slumber concerning the Bible version controversy that has been raging.
The King James Bible’s Greek text is worth fighting for! The Greek Text of the New Testament is truly a BATTLEGROUND! Someone might say to you that there is really very little difference in the two Greek texts. They may tell you that you shouldn’t be fighting about these differences. It seems to me that almost 46 pages of the Greek N.T. ARE worth fighting about. 9,970 Greek words are worth fighting about. 7% of the Greek N.T. is worth fighting about. This is a BATTLEGROUND! We must not retreat. We must do battle for the Lord’s Words! We must stand fast. If we lose in this battle between truth and error, there’s no stopping the onrush of more error. In the tug of war with truth and error, there is no middle ground. Those of us who believe in standing up for the Lord Jesus Christ should remember His Words: “Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of Me and of My Words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when He cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels” (Mk. 8:38).
THE KING JAMES BIBLE’S GREEK TEXT IS ATTESTED BY THE EVIDENCE. Here is a table that is printed on page fifty-seven of Defending the King James Bible. It gives us a summary of the manuscript evidence that is available to us today.
As of 1967, Kurt Aland, of Munster, Germany, counted a total of 5,255 Greek manuscripts still in existence. Though there are a few others since 1967, I use these figures which are still very close. Aland is the lead editor of the 26th edition of the Nestle/Aland Greek New Testament which is being used as the critical text of today. I am using Aland’s 1967 figures.
As you can see from the table, there are 81 (now 88) papyrus fragments. There are 267 uncial manuscripts. These are large, capital letter documents. There are 2,764 cursives manuscripts. These are the flowing hand manuscripts. There are 2,143 lectionary manuscripts. These are portions of Scripture that were read on certain days of the church year. This totals at least 5,255 Greek manuscripts of the N.T. that have been preserved and are available for us today.
The table gives the approximate number and percent of each type of Greek manuscript that supports the Westcott-Hort (WH) Greek text, as well as the number and percent of each class that supports the Textus Receptus (TR) Greek text. These approximations are taken from the careful research of Dr. Jack Moorman in his book Forever Settled (see Bibliography). The WH figures are given first and those for the TR second. For the papyrus fragments the score is 13 to 75 (15% to 85%). For the uncial manuscripts the score is 9 to 258 (3% to 97%). For the cursive manuscripts the score is 23 to 2,741 (1% to 99%). For the lectionary manuscripts the score is 0 to 2,143 (0% to 100%). For the totals for all classes of manuscripts the score is 45 to 5,210. This is a ratio of less than 1% to more than 99%!
THE KING JAMES BIBLE’S GREEK TEXT HAS BEEN PRESERVED BY GOD. Which of the two kinds of Greek text has God preserved? How do you define preservation? The Scripture says:
“The Words of the Lord are pure Words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep Them, O Lord, Thou shalt preserve Them from this generation for ever” (Ps. 12:6,7).
Obviously God has “KEPT” and “PRESERVED” His Words in the 99% of the evidence, rather than in the 1%. By very definition, this is “PRESERVATION.” Suppose I had 100 million dollars to begin with and a thief stole it from me. Suppose I reported this to the police; and after long investigation, they were able to recover 99 million dollars out of the 100 million dollars. The thief would keep one million dollars. Which of the two parties could most accurately be described as having “PRESERVED” the 100 million dollars: the thief who had the one million dollars, or the police who recovered the 99 million dollars? The one million would be a “PRESERVATION” of practically nothing (1%) compared to the 99 million (99%). And so it is with the Greek manuscripts of the N.T. The fulfillment of God’s promise to “KEEP” and “PRESERVE” His Words is to be found in the more than 99% of the manuscripts we have today. And these support the Greek Text that underlies the KJV, and NOT the Greek text that underlies the modern versions and perversions!
THE FALSE GREEK TEXTS OF “B” AND “ALEPH” CONTRADICT ONE ANOTHER IN OVER 3,000 PLACES IN THE GOSPELS ALONE. In the total numbers of manuscripts, you’ll notice that the Westcott- Hort type has only 45 manuscripts that go along with it as over against 5,210 that go along with the TR that underlies the KJV. This 45 includes “B” (Vatican) and “Aleph” (Sinai) and forty- three of their little heretical puppets that follow them. The theory behind the acceptance of these less than 1% is that “The oldest are the best.” The oldest are not necessarily the best, especially if they have been tampered with by heretics!
Both Dr. Frederick Scrivener and Dean John William Burgon agreed that the greatest pollution of the stream of pure manuscripts was accomplished in the first 100 years after the New Testament was written! So the oldest are not necessarily the best! This is especially true since the heretics had their knives out “correcting” the Greek N.T. almost as soon as it was written. The Egyptian scribes and editors of “B” (Vatican) and “Aleph” (Sinai) were some of the most vicious “correctors” of God’s Words; yet these two Greek texts form the very bedrock of the new versions and perversions of our day. “B” and “Aleph” contradict each other, as Herman Hoskier has so accurately pointed out in his two volume work entitled Codex B and Its Allies, in over 3,000 places in the four Gospels alone! So, they are not good witnesses. They are false witnesses indeed!

By David J. Stewart | March 2014 | Updated May 2016
Jesus said that the Devil is a big liar and every time he opens his mouth he speaks lies, because he has no truth whatsoever in him (John 8:44). Satan will steal, kill and destroy everything you love and hold dear in life (John 10:10). The New King James Bible (NKJB or NKJV) is filled with a mix of perversions from the Corrupted Alexandrian Manuscripts!
The New King James is not a King James Bible! Few Christians understand that there are two major sources of our Bible versions today. One is the reliable Textus Receptus (or Received Text) from Antioch, Rome. This is the source from which our believed 1611 King James Bible comes from! Although there have been numerous editions since the 1611 to correct typos, there have NOT been any new revisions of it. ALL OTHER MODERN BIBLE VERSIONS are either translated from the corrupt Alexandrian manuscripts found in Alexandria, Egypt; Or they incorporate its corruptions into the Textus Receptus. The New King James Version (NKJV, also called NKJB) does this. All of the NKJV footnotes refer to the Alexandrian corruptions. In the Bible, Egypt always pictures the sinful world. Nothing good ever came out of Egypt. In ancient times, Egypt was the center of intellectual fraud, atheism (there is no God), Gnosticism (not sure if there is a God), secular humanism (man is God) and worldly philosophy. Egypt is the source of ALL modern Bible versions.
The following chart is tremendously helpful (truly a picture is worth 1,000 words) . . .
If I didn’t care about you spiritually, then I wouldn’t make a fuss over this issue. It’s not a trifle matter. Which Bible you use DOES matter! The New King James Version has literally changed thousands of words, rendering hundreds of Scriptures corrupt. In many places the NKJV has copied the corrupt New International Version (NIV) and other corrupt Bible versions. Nelson Publishers are extremely dishonest, telling the reader at the introduction to the NKJV that they have maintained the integrity of the King James Bible. NO THEY HAVEN’T!!! The King James Bible comes from the Textus Receptus (or Majority Text), but the New King James Version (NKJV) comes from the corrupt Greek work of Brooke Westcott and Fenton Hort (who used the corrupt Alexandrian manuscripts to produce their 1881 work titled, “The New Testament In The Original Greek”). It is upon this corrupt Greek translation that nearly all modern Bible revisions are based. Westcott and Hort denied the deity of Jesus Christ!!! They were unsaved Anglican ministers!
The corrupt Committee On Biblical Translation (CBT) that produced the corrupt NIV, and the corrupt publishers at Thomas Nelson who produced the corrupt NKJV, DON’T believe that we have God’s perfect Words today.
They believe that only the original Hebrew, Greek and Chaldean are inspired by God. They contend that all English translations are at best, filled with ERRORS!!! In the introductions to the NIV and the NKJV, they openly and foolishly state that there are no perfect Bibles today. It’s hard to imagine why Christian men would doubt the omnipotent God Who spoke the universe into existence. Cannot God Who spoke the universe into existence also preserve His inspired Words unto every generation as He so promised in Psalms 12:7-8? Yes, he certainly can!
I say we do have God’s PERFECT Words today in the King James Bible. I do not believe that the King James Bible is newly inspired; but rather, it is divinely preserved inspiration. That is, God has kept His promise to preserve His inspired Words. Every Word of the King James Bible is INSPIRED!!!
Please don’t let anyone convince you falsely that the New King James Bible is easier to understand. My friend, the NKJV is cut from the same corrupt cloth as the NIV, which ought to be called the H.I.V.!!! If you use the NKJV, you might as well use the NIV or some other corrupt Bible, because they are all translated from the corrupt Alexandrian, Egyptian texts.
The New King James Version CANNOT Be Trusted!
Question: I know the New King James is said to be a “revision of the King James.” But were the Greek and Hebrew texts for the New King James the same as they were for the King James?
Answer: The NKJV is not a revision of the King James Bible. It is a subtle perversion of the King James Bible. Though years of extensive research have shown that the Greek and Hebrew texts used for the main NKJV text were similar to those used for the KJV, there is a subtle and deadly poison injected into the NKJV: it changes the meaning of God’s words and it lifts up other texts that disagree with the King James.
A History of Preservation
There is a big difference between God’s preserved words and man’s perverted words. And keep in mind that two things had to be preserved through the centuries: the accurate text of God’s words, and the correct translation of those words.
God preserved the words of the Old Testament by the Levitical priests, who faithfully copied them through the centuries. The best manuscript, used by the King James Bible, was the Ben Chayyim, also called the “Bomberg Text.” This faithful Rabbinic Old Testament, used for the King James Bible, was rejected by the NKJV committee in favor of a Vatican-published text. But it still takes a careful eye (and a parallel Bible) to spot the differences.
God preserved the words of the New Testament by His faithful Christian disciples, from Antioch of Syria (Acts 11:26) to the Vaudois people of the French Alps about AD 120. From the 150s on they passed this Old Latin Bible (called “Common Bible” or “Vulgate“) throughout Europe and the British Isles. The Vaudois people were regarded by the Protestants and Baptists as “pre-Reformers,” passing down the gospel message till the Reformation of the 1500s. Their Bibles and others translated from them, were so accurate they were included in translating the King James Bible. The NKJV committee unwisely used none of these Bibles when deciding the meaning of God’s words and how to translate them into English.
The Preserved vs. the Perverted “Vulgate”
Please remember: the Vaudois’ Old Latin Vulgate is not the same as the later Roman Catholic Latin Vulgate. The Vaudois’ Vulgate is God’s preserved words of God in Old Latin which brought the gospel to all Europe. The Roman Catholic Vulgate is completely different. It wrongly mixed God’s words with the perverted Alexandrian Greek Old Testament, Apocrypha and New Testament. Modern “scholars” falsely declare there’s only one Latin Vulgate. But there are two: the preserved (Vaudois) and the perverted (Roman Catholic).
A Mixture of Perversion
The New King James Version is not a true King James Bible. It mixes some true King James accuracy with a lot of Alexandrian and “new version” errors. We know this because the NKJV tells us which ancient texts they used when they made up their Bible. Don’t be fooled by the clever names and symbols. Here is what they say they really used:
The Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia, or BHS. This is not the preserved Hebrew Old Testament. This one is approved by the Vatican (Roman Catholic religion) and printed jointly by the Vatican and Protestant Bible societies. In 1937 the “scholars” rejected the preserved Ben Chayyim for an “older” (but not more accurate) text: the Leningrad Ms B 19a (also called the “Ben Asher text“). The BHS states:
“…it is a welcome sign of the times that it was published jointly in 1971 by the Wurttemburg Bible Society, Stuttgart, and the Pontifical Biblical Institute, Rome….” –Prolegomena, p. XII
The Septuagint, or LXX. As you have seen, the so-called “Septuagint” is a fable. It was really written after Jesus was born, not before. There are many Septuagints, since each Alexandrian Old Testament is different from every other. Know what they are? Sinaiticus, Vaticanus and Alexandrinus – the same exact codices (big books) where the modern perverted New Testaments come from!
The Latin Vulgate. This is not the preserved Vaudois Christian, Old Latin Vulgate. The NKJV “scholars” consulted the perverted, Roman Catholic Latin Vulgate.
The Dead Sea Scrolls, or DSS. It is clear through Scripture that God preserved His words through the tribe of Levi (Deuteronomy 17:18, 31:9-13, 25-26, Nehemiah 8 and Malachi 2:7). The Qumran community that produced the DSS are never said to be Levites. But though God says “the priest’s lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth” (Malachi 2:7), the NKJV committee instead consulted the DSS as well.
The Majority Text, or MT. With a name like Majority Text it should be a compilation of the majority of Greek New Testament manuscripts. But it is not. The “Majority Text” is actually a hand-picked set of manuscripts grouped together by “pro-Alexandrian” liberal Hermann von Soden. Less than 8% of the over 5,000 Greek manuscripts were compared to each other by von Soden’s team of collators! But the NKJV people give the MT great prominence, writing this inaccurate information in the footnotes.
So people think that the King James is wrong, since it disagrees with “the Majority Text.” Who cares? The “Majority Text” is not the majority of texts! The “Majority Text” is a big fake. Don’t believe it. And don’t trust any Bible that does.
If It Looks Like a Duck and Talks Like a Duck…
There is another side to the New King James that reveals its ugly alliances.
In most places where the NKJV disagrees with the King James Bible, it agrees with the translations of modern Alexandrian perversions, whether Protestant like the NIV, NAS, RSV, ASV, etc., or Roman Catholic like the New American Bible.
The King James Bible is God’s preserved words in English. The NKJV is just man’s most subtle perversion of God’s words. Don’t be deceived. Insist on the King James Bible, not “New” King James, “Modern” King James, King James “2” or “21” or “Millennium,.” Even thought it is very similar to a King James Bible, it is not a King James Bible. Insist on the one you can stake your faith on, the genuine King James Bible. God will bless you.

2 Von Soden never claimed the texts collated by his team were a “majority” of texts. HELL FIRE (you’d better get saved before it’s too late! by Pastor Danny Castle)
“Nobody can love God who doesn’t love sinners!”
If you believe what the Bible teaches, attend a church that teaches the Bible!
The New Living Translation (NLT) is straight from Hell. On their official website, NLT advertises with the slogan, “Accuracy you can trust.”
Unfortunately, the NLT is not very accurate. The fact that the word “begotten” has been wrongfully removed from John 3:16 should be enough reason for every Christian to trash their NLT.
In fact, I would rip it into shreds first to ensure that no one else is poisoned by it. To say that Jesus is God’s “only son” is a lie! In fact, God has many sons according to Scriptures such as 1 John 3:1, “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God.”
Biblically, God has MANY sons, but Jesus is the only BEGOTTEN Son. So you see, ANY bible which removes the word “begotten” from John 3:16 becomes heresy. This includes most modern bibles such as the perverted New International Version (NIV), The Book For Teens (TBFT), the New Living Translation (NLT), the New Believer’s Bible (NBB), the Lying… I mean Living Bible (LB), and many more. It is tragic!
Let’s face it, the corrupters who are publishing demonic bibles are all out to make a fast buck, filthy lucre! In order to reach the largest market base possible, they trim and water down the Scriptures as much as tolerable. This is evil. God hates Bible corruption —Deuteronomy 4:2, “Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.” Well, the NLT butchers have diminished God’s Word by subtracting “begotten” from John 3:16.
The NLT was published in 1996 by Tyndale Publishers. Few Christians realize that there have been over 200 new Bible translations published just within the last 30 years. It’s blatantly obvious that this evil is the result of much greed and love for money (1 Timothy 6:10). The NLT is based upon Kenneth N. Taylor’s corrupted Living Bible (1971). His perverted Living Bible sold over 40 million copies in North America alone. Taylor died in June of 2005 at age 88. It is wicked to corrupt the Word of God (2 Peter 3:16).
Now comes the damnable New Living translation. Although the NLT preface claims that 87 scholars were involved in the word of translation, I have to seriously wonder if any of them really loved Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 2:7 reads, “Unto you therefore which believe he is precious…”
How could any professed Christian who loves Jesus be involved in a “bible” translation that perverts the Word of God. The fact that dozens of different ecumenical groups were involved in the work of translation speaks volumes as to the devil’s attempt to water down the Word of God. Increasingly, modern “bible” translations must be more politically correct in order to sell at high volumes. So as the world plunges further into the depths of wickedness and apostasy, new translations must follow along if they are to sell. Take a look at The Book For Teens bible, which is based upon the New Living Translation, not one mention is made of the blood of Jesus in the section on “Salvation through Jesus Christ” (Page A47). The blood of Jesus is a taboo subject nowadays amongst many pseudo-Christian groups, thanks to heretics like John MacArthur.
As further proof of corruption, Billy Graham endorses the NLT on the front cover jacket. Billy Graham is Mr. ecumenical himself, who has done more to unite apostate protestants with the Great Whore of Catholicism than anyone else. 2 Corinthians 6:14-17 commands us to separate from the unbelieving world, NOT yoke up with them. Ephesians 5:11 tells us to reprove the works of darkness, NOT fellowship with them.
Billy graham is on the devil’s side, a friend of the world, and the enemy of God (James 4:4). The Catholic Church is straight out of the pits of Hell and it’s about time that ALL the preachers around the world start proclaiming it. Billions of souls are headed for destruction because of compromised and cowardly pastors and preachers who are afraid to offend anyone. Speak the Truth! Offend them! Their souls are at stake!

John 1:41 – The NLT leaves out the phrase, “Which is by interpretation, a stone.” Hence, the critical distinction between Peter as “the stone” (petros), and Jesus as “The Rock” (Petra) is obscured. This was no doubt deliberate to please Roman Catholics who falsely teach that Peter is the rock upon which the church is built. The Bible states in no uncertain terms, “For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 3:11).

NLT PERVERTS THE GODHEAD!
1 John 5:7 is a vital Scripture that EVERY Christian should know. This Scripture clearly proclaims that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost are ONE. But, the NLT says otherwise…
KJB – “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.”
NLT – “So we have these three witnesses.”
What blasphemy! Many Christians have bought into the lie that 1 John 5:7 wasn’t in the originals —IT! WAS! It depends on which originals you’re talking about. The Textus Receptus (or received text) from which our reliable King James Bible comes DOES contain 1 John 5:7.
1 John 5:7 in the NLT greatly contradicts John 10:30…
“I and my Father are one.” –John 10:30 KJB
It also contradicts Luke 3:22…
“And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.”
The NLT Bible corrupters even removed the Godhead from Romans 1:20…
KJB – “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:”
NLT – “From the time the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky and all that God made. They can clearly see his invisible qualities–his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse whatsoever for not knowing God.”
One of the most popular attacks that unbelievers launch against Christians is to say that the word “trinity” is not even found in the Bible. The best defense is to show them the multiple Scriptures in the Word of God which teach about the GODHEAD. Tragically, the word “Godhead” isn’t even mentioned in the NLT. What?! Yes, that is correct…some “accurate” translation huh? This is why I confidently say that the New Living Translation is straight from Hell! Here’s Acts 17:29 compared…
KJB – “Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device.”
NLT – “And since this is true, we shouldn’t think of God as an idol designed by craftsmen from gold or silver or stone.”
Many cults (such as Islamic Muslims and Jehovah Witnesses) acknowledge the existence of a god, but deny the Godhead. It is tragic that so many believers are supporting these modern versions that maliciously attack the Godhead and Jesus’ deity. Look what they’ve done to Colossians 2:9…
KJB – “For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.”
NLT – “For in Christ the fullness of God lives in a human body.”
I noticed a tiny asterisk mark (*) next to Colossians 2:9 in the NLT. I looked to the bottom to see what the footnote said… “Greek in him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.” Do you see what is happening here? To make everybody happy, the NLT Bible-corrupters completely removed “Godhead” to appease the liberals, but then they’ve also placed the truth in a little footnote in an attempt to appease conservative protestants. Why in the world would they not place the literal Greek translation in Colossians 2:9, why would they put the correct Greek translation in a tiny footnote at the bottom of the page? Do you know what happens in the making of a new “bible”? It’s kind of like the bargaining table at contract time between the union and company management.
All the different religious denominations are invited to the bargaining table and a meeting is held to decide what COMPROMISES must be made to make the “new” “bible” acceptable to their particular denomination. This is all done in an attempt to reach the largest market base possible. By the time the new corrupted bible is finished, without fail, the Godhead (Trinity) and the deity of Jesus Christ are greatly diminished. This is why I love the old King James Bible, it proudly proclaims the Godhead and the deity of our Precious Lord Jesus Christ!
NLT PERVERTS CHRIST’S DEITY!
One of the most important verses in the Bible is John 3:16. As mentioned earlier, the NLT perverts this verse by removing the word “begotten,” thus saying that God only has one son. But 1 John 3:1 in the KJB reads, “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.” Clearly, God has many sons, but Jesus is the only BEGOTTEN Son of God, which makes Jesus God.
KJB – “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” – John 3:16
NLT – “For God so loved the world that he gave he gave his only son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16
THE NLT TEACHES HERESY!
“For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.” – Galatians 3:26 KJB
The NLT also corrupts 1 Timothy 3:16…
KJB – “…God was manifest in the flesh…”
*TBFT – “…Christ appeared in the flesh…”
Jesus claimed to be Almighty God in Revelation 1:8. For anyone to diminish 1 Timothy 3:16 to a mere “Christ appeared in the flesh” is ridiculous! Any idiot knows that Jesus appeared in the flesh! But the KJB declares that GOD was manifest (or revealed) in the fleshly body of Jesus Christ. It angers many people when you promote the deity of Christ, thus the reason why ALL modern bibles attack Jesus’ deity.
Again, the NLT perverts Philippians 2:5-6…
KJB – “Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God.”
NLT – “Though he was God, he did not demand and cling to his rights as God.”
The NLT cleverly corrupted Philippians 2:6 by removing the word “equal.” In so doing, they have lowered Jesus to the god of the Jehovah Witnesses. JW‘s teach that Jesus is “a god,” but not Almighty God, which is a lie of the devil. By saying that Jesus is “equal” with God, the KJB is clearly declaring Christ as Almighty God.
As further proof of the NLT attack on Jesus’ deity, look at Colossians 1:16…
KJB – “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth…”
NLT – “Christ is the one through whom God created everything in heaven and earth.”
The KJB declares that Jesus created all things, but the NLT wrongfully teaches that God created all things through Jesus. This is exactly what the Jehovah Witnesses cult teaches. JW‘s deny Christ’s deity (as do most cults). JW‘s teach that God created everything THROUGH Jesus. On the contrary, the KJB proclaims in Colossians 1:16 that Jesus Christ created all things Himself. It is wicked heresy to say that Jesus did not create the universe by His own Word. John 1:10 reads, “He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.” Sadly, the NLT perverts this Scripture also, claiming that God created the universe “through” Jesus instead of “by” Jesus as the Word of God teaches in the KJB. The JW‘s would be proud of the NLT. Listen friend, you need to burn your NLT because it dishonors and dethrones the Lord Jesus Christ.
NLT PERVERTS ACTS 12:4!
The NLT perverts Acts 12:4 by changing “Easter” to “Passover.” Numbers 28:16-17 clearly teaches that the seven days of unleavened bread FOLLOWED the day of Passover. Acts 12:2 in the KJB tells us that the days of unleavened bread were already being observed, which means that the day of Passover was OVER! So when the NIV and the NLT say that Herod was waiting for the Passover in Acts 12:5, they are lying! The KJB wisely uses the proper word “Easter” because the Passover had already occurred.
NLT COMPLETELY REMOVES THE WORD “SODOMITE” FROM THE BIBLE
God describes homosexuals with the word “sodomite” for a reason. Jude 1:7 reads, “Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.” The word “sodomite” comes from the city of Sodom, a city so vile and wicked that God decided to utterly destroy it by reigning down fire and brimstone from Heaven. To call homosexuality, “sodomy,” implies the judgment of God upon the wicked sin of homosexuality.
The modern definition of sodomy is NOT the Biblical definition. Sodomy in the Bible is defined as sex between two men, or two women (homosexuality and lesbianism). We read of the woeful homosexuality problem in Sodom in Genesis 19:4-5. American society (and the world) has plunged horribly into wickedness and apostasy, even to the extent of corrupting the Bible for the sake of being politically correct to make money. Now there’s even a homosexual bible.
GET A KING JAMES BIBLE!
The 1611 King James Bible is TRUSTWORTHY. We don’t rewrite Shakespeare because we can’t understand the archaic English; rather, we study it in the beauty in which it was written. To retranslate Shakespeare into modern English would be a literary tragedy. This it is a woeful tragedy what modern “bible” corrupters have done to GOD’S WORD. In the King James Bible we have the preserved and inspired Word of God. The Bible is to be studied, not read like a comic book or magazine. Too many believers have bought into the lie that we need a new Bible, and another, and another… where will it end? …The Satanic Bible?
When we consider deadly animals, we normally think about venomous snakes, ferocious sharks, crocodiles, or bears. You might be surprised to learn that the animals or organisms most deadly to humans don’t match our mental picture of dangerous creatures. The creature that kills the most humans per year (between 750,000-1,000,000) is the lowly mosquito. Because of the various diseases it spreads, such as malaria, mosquitoes are the animal kingdom’s leading human killers. Another creature that has proven to be extremely deadly is the harmless looking freshwater snail. Freshwater snails are host to dangerous parasites known as cercariae that cause an infection in humans known as schistosomiasis. Millions of people each year ingest this parasite through contaminated water,1 and about 10,000 die every year.2 While contamination from water is the most common cause of the infection, another way the parasite can spread is when a person consumes raw or undercooked snail meat.
The fact that many snails carry parasites that are harmful to humans turns out to be another piece of evidence that shows the King James Bible is the inspired Word of God in English. When we look at the food regulations written by Moses in approximately 1450 B.C., we find that the Israelites had specific laws about what they could and could not eat. One of those regulations dealt with animals found in water. The Law permitted the Israelites to eat any animal that had both fins and scales, but any creature without both fins and scales was “an abomination” to the Israelites. They were told not to eat them or touch their dead bodies (Leviticus 11:9-12). Land-living snails were also prohibited (Leviticus 11:41-42). Some people contend that the food laws had nothing to do with health regulations and were merely ceremonial, religious rituals. We have documented at length that such is not the case and that the food regulations were specifically designed to help the Israelites avoid many of the diseases that plagued the nations around them.3
When Moses led the Israelites out of the land of Egypt, there were approximately 603,000 males ages 20 years old and above (Numbers 1:46). By adding to that the number of women of the same ages, along with those who were younger, we arrive at an estimated two million Israelites exiting Egypt. Due to their disobedience, they wandered around in the wilderness for 40 years. Many of the laws found in Exodus-Deuteronomy were sanitation, quarantine, hygiene, and disease regulation designed to keep the Israelites healthy and safe during their wilderness wandering and their future lives in Canaan. These regulations exhibited a scientific knowledge that was far beyond any nation’s ability at the time to have acquired through the natural course of human understanding. This characteristic is referred to as scientific foreknowledge and is an attribute of divine inspiration. In short, there is no possible way Moses could have known the science that lies behind the food, hygiene, and sanitation regulations in the books he penned.
Snails provide an excellent example of scientific foreknowledge. Both water-living snails and land-living snails are highly susceptible hosts to numerous parasites. In an article titled “Some Health Risks With Eating Giant African Land Snail”, entomologist Paul Skelley stated, “Most of the infections and deaths from snail-transmitted diseases apparently come from eating raw or undercooked snails or ingesting slime residue left on fresh fruits and vegetables.”4 Skelley went on to say, “In my opinion, eating wild snails should only be done in an ‘eat-snail-or-die’ survival situation” due to the high probability that most snails host dangerous parasites. The CDC put out a blog about snails and slugs carrying a parasite called the rat lungworm that can cause meningitis, blindness, and death in humans. The author said, “Humans become infected by ingesting raw or undercooked mollusks.”5
With two million Israelites moving around in the wilderness, it would have been extremely difficult to properly cook all the food they consumed. There were no meat thermometers that could be used to guarantee that snails, pork, or oysters were cooked to the necessary temperature to kill parasites. Since God provided manna every day for the Israelites to eat, they were not in any type of “eat-snail-or-die” situation. The consumption of meat and animals would have been for the purpose of providing variety to their diets and not at all necessary for survival. Therefore, the best approach to what should or should not be eaten would be to prohibit the consumption of any creatures that had a high probability of carrying parasites or diseases.
Moses could not have taken a microscope to meat samples to identify which animals carry tiny parasites or which animals (such as bats, see Leviticus 11:19)6 are remarkably prone to diseases such as rabies. We might expect that Moses could have guessed a few such instances correctly. But to have accurately listed numerous regulations that contain in them safety measures that were not understood by any nation until literally thousands of years after the books were written? That is superhuman. That is Divine! It is not surprising that Moses told the Israelites, “Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the LORD my God commanded me, that ye should do so in the land whither ye go to possess it.
Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.” (Deuteronomy 4:5-6).

By Dr. Ken Matto
1 Corinthians 10:11 “Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.”
Are multiple Bible versions God’s judgment on the church? What a question. How could the word of God be a judgment on the very establishment it proclaims? Very simple. Any version can call itself a Bible but it is the content inside those versions which cause them to be a judgment rather than a blessing. Let us look at the precedent for this biblical principle. In 1 Corinthians 10:11, we are told that the things which happened to ancient Israel were recorded by God for the purpose of our admonition. The word “admonition” in the Greek carries with it the meaning of “instruction, warning, or counsel”. It is the word “nouthesia. (νουθεσιαν)” and we derive the word “nouthetic” which is a form of accountability counseling made popular by Jay Adams. In other words, God did not record those things which happened to Israel as something just be read but they are there to warn us to not fall into the same traps which they allowed themselves to fall into which resulted in them being judged by God and eventually losing their nation forever in 70 A.D.
Isaiah 28:11 “For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.” In Isaiah 28:11, God had already stated that He was going to bring a judgment on Judah which happened in 586 B.C. Here is the principle which we are able to carry over to the New Testament Church. The prophecy which God is making through Isaiah is that of the coming of the Chaldeans or the Babylonians who will eventually take Judah into captivity for seventy years. Notice how God reveals this fact. He tells them that He is going to speak to these people, that is Judah, with men of stammering lips and another tongue. The phrase “stammering lips” carries with it the meaning of “foreign lips.” The English word “stammering” means “stopping or hesitating in the speaking of syllables and words.” So this gives us a little insight about the way the Chaldean language was spoken.
For many years, since the times of Moses, which would have been about 700 years before Isaiah was written, God had sent prophets and leaders to Israel but the problem as that they were a very rebellious and recalcitrant people. Whenever God sent a prophet to them to guide them back into obedience, they had refused to listen. Now the prophets came to them in their own language, speaking to them in no uncertain terms so there was no problem in them understanding. We know this because they would hear the prophets and then afterward would become very angry with them to the point of persecuting and even killing them. Luke 13:34 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!” Jesus Himself made that accusation against them. So the time of God’s patience wore out and He was now going to do something to Judah which they would be unable to believe.
Habakkuk 1:5-6 “Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvellously: for I will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you. For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwelling places that are not theirs.”
Habakkuk was written about 626-605 B.C. which was about 150 years after Isaiah and we can tell from this that Judah still remained in disobedience to God and the Law. Now they refused to listen to those prophets who came to them in their own language to warn them and admonish them that if they did not become obedient, then God was going to judge them with the Chaldeans. Remember the Chaldeans were described by God as those “with stammering lips and another tongue.” In other words, God was going to use a people whereby Judah would not be able to understand their language. Since they refused to listen in their own language, God was now going to judge them by a foreign language. That was the principle God was giving in Isaiah 28:11.
Now how does that apply to the Christian and the church of today?
Up until 1881, the church used one Bible and that was the King James. You could go into any church and you would hear that Bible being expounded. If you look at history, you will see that the church was a very powerful entity at that time and because people used the King James Bible, it spawned not only a powerful church but the greatest century of world missions. Then in 1881, the Revised Version of Hort and Westcott was released on the Christian world. It did not make the greatest impact at that time but the fact that it was there meant that the source of corruption was just waiting to be used and it was. In 1872, Phillip Schaff chose 30 theologians from various denominations including the Unitarian church and began the translation from the 1881 RV Greek of Hort and Westcott into what would be called the 1901 American Standard Version. satan now had his foot in the door with the corrupt Bible version. Then in 1906 came the “Azuza street revival” which it was called but when one studies it, there was also much witchcraft involved in it. That lasted from 1906 to 1915. Just long enough for the Assemblies of God to form in 1914 whereby it started the charismatic movement with all the tongues, signs, and wonders. The churches were beginning to accept the tongues and because they did, they suffered the same fate as the people of Judah did in the time of Habakkuk.
Just as the message was being preached in the language of the people, they began to start accepting the tongues movement and because of this, God was now judging them as He did Judah with other tongues which are totally gibberish. With the acceptance of the tongues movement, God was now judging every single church which adapted that satanic phenomenon. If a church accepts tongues, then that is not evidence of the Holy Spirit, but evidence that church is under judgment. Individual Christians who accept tongues, if they are truly saved, will not lose their salvation but will be severely hindered in their Christian walk and will not grow beyond tongues, healing, miracles, and signs. In other words, these Christians will not grow because they are stagnating their own growth by accepting what is not of God.
Now that principle has been transferred to every church which accepts the modern versions. Every single modern version says something different and therefore cannot get past “what does your version say?” Try to have a Bible study where there are ten different versions and you will be at an impasse. When the church was using only one Bible, namely the King James Bible, there was a very powerful church. Now that we have many counterfeit versions in the churches, the church has become the weakest entity on earth. In fact, it has been downgraded to nothing but a religious social club where everyone is welcome, including witches. With each modern version saying something different, if you have a church full of Christians with modern versions, then what you have is a situation of total confusion. The pastor is teaching from his ESV, you are sitting there with your NIV, your wife or husband has the NASV, and your child has the Message. It is just like the judgment of Judah with the foreign tongues. Each modern version is a tongue of its own and since so many Christians have multiple versions in every church, it is not a place of growth but of confusion. Since God cannot speak to the church in the language of the King James Bible, He is now speaking to these churches with stammering lips. Remember what the stammering lips were. They were the hesitation and stopping of pronouncing syllables. Is that happening in the church? It sure is. How many times does your pastor stop the sermon to quote another version or how many times does he go to the Greek or the Hebrew and expound the word from his Nestle-Aland or UBS Greek New Testament? The reality is that multiple versions in a church is just like God speaking to Judah through the stammering lips of the Chaldeans. The gospel needs continuity in its teaching and not confusion. If your church suffers from Multiple Version Disorder, then your church is under God’s Judgment. If the Bible that He gave us in 1611 which is bathed in the blood of the martyrs is not good enough for you, then you are a traitor by embracing the Roman Catholic modern versions, then you, like Judah, have become an enemy of Christ and your Christian walk will be a total disappointment.
Jesus had a lot to say about worry.
He came into an unstable and unpredictable world. He lived in an agricultural society where one summer’s drought could wipe out crops for the winter. He hung out with fishermen, who might fish all night long and catch nothing to sell or bring home to family. And Jesus knew the human heart and the temptations presented by the cares of this life. So he gave his disciples some excellent instruction on worry in Matthew 6:25
Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
First, Jesus says God gave us our human life and our bodies without us even asking. Human life and our physical bodies are incredibly valuable. Our life is much more valuable than the food we put on the table; our body far more valuable than the shirt we put on. If God gave us life, which is so very valuable, will he not give us food, which is of far lesser value? If God gave us these bodies which are fearfully and wonderfully made, will he not give us clothes to cover them? And even further, if God has given us eternal life, will he not provide for our temporal life?
Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
Jesus reminds us that God faithfully provides for dumb animals. Birds don’t sow or reap or store their food in barns—and they don’t fret about whether they’ll have enough for tomorrow or to get through the winter. Yet God feeds them. And Jesus tells us that humans, the crown of God’s creation, the only creatures made in God’s image, are of much more value than birds. If God provides for birds, then surely he’ll provide for those he made in his own image. Furthermore, will not God especially provide for those he bought with the blood of his Son?
Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
Worry does absolutely no good. It won’t bring in money, food, or clothing. Worry only has negative results: it chokes the word of God and distracts us from God. It is unbelief, the opposite of faith. And it leads to more fear and anxiety. And the different scenarios we play out in our minds can’t prevent a single thing from happening. And besides that, most of the things we spend so much time fretting about won’t happen anyway.
To sum up:
•Your life and body are far more valuable than any food you eat or clothing you wear. If God gave you life and fearfully created your body, he’ll provide food for that life and covering for that body.
•God provides for birds who don’t know enough to plant, reap, and store up for winter. Humans created in God’s image are far more valuable than birds, so he will certainly provide for us.
•Worry can’t do a thing. It won’t bring in a penny. It can’t put a crust of bread on the table or add 5 minutes to our lives.
So don’t worry, trust your heavenly Father who cares for you.
